About to buy an 08

Have you priced insurance yet?

You might consider a storage unit to keep it in. It may last a lot longer. They tend to become parts donors when left outside and unattended for long periods.

If you want it bad enough, buy it; just be honest with yourself about what you're getting into.

Be safe, have fun, and if you buy a new one, don't test ride before you buy, you'll feel like a junkie until you're on the seat again.

Mototune usa! I use his break-in methods with all my new bikes. NEVER had a problem and all my engines were within spec at various intervals. The factory manual break-in is a liability disclaimer.

If you do use the mototune break-in method, follow it to the "T".
Paul, I think longest time you kept you bike was like 2 weeks.

My '06 had a sweet spot at 4K / 50 MPG. Haven't had the '08 long enough. I followed the factory break in on the 06 and had over 32K on it with no problems and no adjustments other than idle speed. Just changed the oil and filters and tyres of course. Welcome to the board, I'd be thinking 09 in two months .................

I did a 1200 mile trip on interstates only and premium fuel almost exclusively and got 42 MPG

Now I do daily short commutes in downtown Seattle, sometimes in peak hours and still get the exact same 42 MPG, premium gas also. And yes, I know it's sad to be using a Busa like that, but I give her a decent treatment on weekends ;)

Locking the bike with a chain is virtually worthless. Neighbor lost a 1000 that was chained with a Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit chain. He had to forget about it. My Cobra Link saved mine from the same theives, but they don't make them any more and with enough time, someone can get through that too. Insurance will be stupid expensive since I'm guessing you will be making payments and be required to have full coverage.

cool guys, thanks for all the info. How soon can you purchase an 09?
Also, anyone know roughly how many miles you can expect outa one of these?

Hey guys. Sorry about no replies, but i have been having computer troubles lately. Thanks for all the info, it is all great and very helpful.
Yes, I know that a college lot is a sketchy place, but i plan on getting an alarm, and even chaining it to a pole, or my truck if need be. I will also keep it under a cover all the time, for the weather, but also hopefully it will conceal its identity a bit. I am not getting it as a daily ride around town commuter. I have had my eye on this bike for 4 years now, I fell in love with it and it instantly became my dream bike from the moment I saw it. I know it is a very powerful beast, but I think I can manage. My philosophy is that the bike is not dangerous, it is the rider that makes it a safe ride or not. A newb can hop on a little 125cc and kill himself just like any other bike. I always ride (relatively) safe, because you can die on any bike in an instant.
Anyways, enough safety crap. Another question. When you are riding, can you really feel the weight of the bike? Does it turn like a pig, or is it kinda nimble? My favorite riding is twisty mountain roads, is it any fun in turns?
The thing handles great, I came off a 05ZX10R and I had no problem getting adjusted to the weight difference. The bike is awesome on turns you will love it.

Good luck with the parking lot though I had someone back into mine in a Kroger parking lot within a month of owning it.

Just a friendly warning about lots. It will be gone........ I lost my 05' ltd. that way. Just pull it in the front door of your apt. (if you can)

I'd rather wake up and see her in my livin room then not see her at all.

cool, great to hear it handles good. I was worried about that. Im not saying I wouldnt buy it if it did feel like a pig, but i love twisties and it wouldnt be as much fun. And yes, I am thinking of just parking it on my porch in front of my dorm room, that would be best case scenario, but if I cant do that, then i am going to have theft insurance, and I am going to make it so that if they do steal it they really must have wanted it. I will most likely get an alarm, one of those wheel locks, heavy duty chain and pad-lock, and will always keep it under a discreet cover. This is not to say, however, that it is un-stealable. If someone wants it badly enough they will steal it. However, it will be quite a deterrant, and I hope it will take enough time to get through it all that they just wont want to. If it does happen though, I am hoping the insurance will kick in.

One more question, the removable hump, it has the passenger seat underneath it, correct? Can you use the hump as a small storage area for gloves or something? My friend has a ZRX1100, and has a compartment under his seat by his airbox. Does the Busa have something like that?

There is a rear seat you can put in place of the hump. And yes there is a little room under there to place some items. toolkit(comes with bike) gloves etc.....

You get both the seat and the hump when you get the bike...
