Almost there ! (100000 miles )

Dang, that's awesome. I'm just about to hit 45,000 miles. I figure by the end of this coming summer, I'll have about 70,000 on it. I've been doing all the normal maintenance scheduled out in the service guide. The main stuff, anyway. Oil changes religiously, valve checks, TB Synchs, etc. All on the original stock engine.

What I'm interested in is your comment about stripping the engine down and rebuilding it. You make it sound like it's nothing, like most of us spending an afternoon detailing the plastics! It makes me curious as to just how involved it is, how long it takes you and if there are any unusual tools you need, things most average wrench monkeys like me would not have in their tool box.

EDIT: Oh, nearly forgot to ask, on a motor with 45,000 miles on it, are there any serious concerns to be had at this point?

Kudos to you, bro!

I've torn dowm over 20 engines for various reasons. It's not really challenging if your mechanical skills are good. Plasti-gauging for bearing clearances is recommended.
There's a special tool for removing the engine that's needed, I got mine from Suzuki but later found one at a local Tool Shed shop.
If you don't drag race your mileage shouldn't be a problem. If you do then changing/cleaning the oil pickup should be done anually if not more often. Two of the 1397s I built are on my brother-n-law's and good friend's bikes and we ride a lot together including to Bike Week at Myrtle Beach with no problems.

You didnt just trade this in on a new 08 with 400 miles showing on the odo did you?

Not hardly, but I did make 2 guys with '08s think something was wrong with their bikes.
When I went to the local delership here they picking at me about "busting up" their customers, with that OLD/WORN OUT Busa.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your generosity. My mechanical skills are not bad but my knowledge is weak. I don't mind wrenching on any bike or car as long as I have a good manual or I already know what I'm doing. My problem is, I'm lazy.

I'm relived to think that I may not ever have to tear the engine down for any reason. Heheheheh!

Oil pickup. I'll have a look at that and see what happens there.

Have fun out there!

Man. Thats a lot of freakin miles. My best trip ever on a bike was from Seattle to Miami. But that werent no dang Busa. 100000 is an awesome achievement even for the frame.

That's just tremendous! Congrats on that milestone! Something most of us will only dream of achieving.

You da man-- What do you think at about 30k the overall condition of the engine is-- pipe and PC --- track dayed a few times - always warmed up good before jumpin' on it-- sometimes i think i can hear rod bearings talking to me....still runs killer -- never sycronized the TB's idles perfect... should i worry?? it's been on the revlimiter a few times [20] maybe-- Thanks

I run mine EXTREMELY hard at times, including at least 20 trips to the track last year. I also have an extended ECU which causes extra stress - everything looked real good on the last ( unnecessary ) tear down. Keeping the oil and filter changed out is essential !!!

Thanks 00Busa--- i will check the valve clearances-- fresh plugs --- oil and filter and rock on..

Might want to change cam chain too while you have the cover off. Not that hard to do, but be sure to have it at TDC in order to get it back "timed" correctly.
