Another Chain Question...

So I'm looking at the Ebay ads for standard 530 drive chain, in particular ads for EK and DID chain. I noticed that the ads for EK 530 rate it for bikes up to 350cc and the ads for DID chain rate it for bikes up to 450cc. Something sounds wrong here to be using these chains on a Hayabusa that is 1299cc.
Is somebody in the chain business smoking crack or am I just not understanding the big picture..??

OK, well I'm getting confused again. I thought standard 530 chain was standard 530 chain. Now you're telling me that there's TWO types of 530 standard non O-ring chain, "dirt bike chain" and the "other" 530 chain that I would use on my Hayabusa. I'm just trying to get straight on this.
I was under the impression that 530 chain came in only 3 flavors, Standard, O-ring and X-ring. Now we have the "dirt bike" flavor.
Oh boy..!!! :banghead:

I had an EK ZVX2 that I ran for 8,000 miles that's still like new with virtually no stretch or wear(only had to adjust it slightly just once),I'd still be using it but just put a longer swingarm on and had to get a 150 link so went with the new EK 3D(which replaced the EK ZZZ).I believe the EK ZVX2 was just replaced with the EK ZVX3 if you decide to go that route, either is more than strong enough for a Busa.
I always thought a 530 was a 530 also,thought dirt bikes,etc. ran a small chain like a 420 or something?

My crf450r runs a 525 or 530 chain can't remember. I belive they are the same chain just marketed differently. Like CBX said just make sure that the chain has significant tensile strength and you will be good.

Yes, I've been reading up on chains and I would say there's a LOT of creative marketing going on, lets leave it at that.
Thanks guys

Just saw some 520's for a CRF 450,didn't know they ran that big of a chain, but I do now.:D

The full size dirtbikes are all 520 pitch. I think most of the 600-750 or 800 cc bikes are 525 pitch. Most 1000's and bigger are 530 pitch. Some machines may vary. All sizes will come in a few different tensile strength's. Just find the 530 oring or xring thats rated for the busa. Alot of people running the small bore streetbikes on a road course will run a 520 non oring conversion to get every last HP they can.

To recap the research I've been doing on 530 chain, just in 530 STANDARD chain, there must be hundreds of manufacturers
with hundreds of different specs on it. Pin size and side plate thickness, along with alloy, tempering and shot peening all make
a difference in tensile strength. Basically the same goes for O-ring and X-ring chains, the tensile strength and quality is all over
the map, so choose wisely grasshopper..!!
