Why do I do this? Because my Busa is a toy and I like playing.
Some notes about the analysis below:
The oil is AGIP 5W40, made by ENI (Italy, big sponsor of FIM) use to be factory recommendation for Ducati. I had some of this left, but it is finished now, so the last change was Silkolene 5W40, have to wait for the next analysis to see how it does.
Average iron content for a Busa is 24, mine is still a little high at 31ppm, could be due to the motor still being new, could be because the bike stood a lot very little mileage over 18 months.
Iron content, which is an indication of wear is almost 3 times higher than my Harley, for the same mileage on the motor and the same mileage on the oil. Harley oil does not see the gearbox though, so this could be where it comes from.
Iron content is about 1/3rd that of my Husky, which is essentially a dirt-bike thumper.
Copper is high, not sure, but could be from my riding style, I seem to be shifting gears all the time.
Silver? Clutch thrust bearing?
Viscosity dropped down to a 5W30, but I have seen an analysis on a Busa with Mobil 1 10W40, which dropped even lower, into the 10W30 range. Will be interesting to see how the Silkolene does with the next analysis. Amsoil analysis on other bikes, seem to hold its viscosity pretty good, I just don't like the huge amount of calcium in Amsoil.
Air filter is good for performance but not the best for cleaning, I use an oil coated filter on my Husky and the silicon is a fraction of that on the Busa.
No fuel dilution, which is great.
No coolant present, which is great.
Plenty additive left, could easily stretch this oil for a 6,000 mile change if I wanted to.
