Results, oil analysis

Bump for this one.

I originally wanted to post some observations but as time went by forgot to do it. This is just for what it's worth.

The silicone in terms of wear is coming from the SCEM bore plating. Si is used as anti-foam in the oil formulation and will also show up as dirt ingestion from induction air. As a defoamant it can be from 5-20ppm used in new oil samples. Only a base line new oil sample would help tell . Some newer formulas use a different type and won't show up as elemental Si.

The silver is from break in of a couple bottom end components. It will trend down but at yearly change intervals stands a good chance of remaining relatively high because of slight corrosion. Different oils with different passivators could change that. Other brands with an alternate less agressive chemistry could as well. It's all about using one oil and trending for the most part.

The combination of a little fuel dilution and shearing of the viscosity index improvers knocked the vi down to a 30wt. 12.2 is top of the range there. I generally use 15w-50 because of just that and shear it to a 40wt. Thats not to say there's lack of stable 10w-40's available.

I'm not into this like years back but one thing i feel certain about is that the Gen II engine comes from the factory set up pretty tight. This seems one of them unless it's been road raced.
