Another Rider Down

On the way home from work today, I saw a brand new R6 with temp tags flat on its side in an intersection. The rider appeared to have already been placed in the ambulance. (Being there was an ambulance and the rider was no where to be seen.)

I took careful observation of the bikes condition and I have to say that this one appears to probably have been the riders fault. There didn't appear to be any other car involved in the accident as the bike only had damage from where it was laying down and no where else. (front/rear) I figure this one was probably due to lack of experience because of the temp tags and the condition of the bike. The bike was oddly facing oncoming traffic in the intersection. See diagram below, X marks the spot of the bike on its side. Notice it is inline with oncoming traffic.

Feel sorry for the owner... probably his first sportbike and now that he wrecked it... I bet he/she won't be able to afford the insurance on it again...

New riders, do yourself a favor and work into the bike. It is much harder to ride a bike then it is to drive a car and I bet this rider was just not riding within his limits even if those limits were a probably low as it was...

drivers safety course is also advised... For those of you that are buying bikes for the first time, especially sportbikes, take a safety course... No one wants to hear about your dumbass in the graveyard after the fact because you were too stupid to get training on your new toy...

I remember when I first started riding that I hated intersections. Having to stop sometimes I would stall the bike or pop the clutch without enough throttle and kill it. Then get in a hurry to move and do the same thing over again. Hope the rider wasn't injured too badly!

I was riding out of work to day and saw that a bike had hit a deer on the freeway. I couldn't make out what kind it was though. Be safe and the keep the bike upright.

Hell yeah intersections are killers, what 70% of ALL Motorcycle accidents are at intersections.... Interesting... Or scary sh!d...

So who's to say a cage didn't pull out in front of 'im and cause the spill?

Experienced riders buy new bikes with temp tags, too. Hell, my busa has a temp tag right now (actually no tag since the temp is BIGGER than a regular cage plate) since I ordered a prestige plate this time and it hasn't arrived yet.

You have a good message in that newbies should take it slow and easy, but maybe you're assuming too much in placing blame on the poor downed rider without knowin' the facts?

Just a thought...

cagers seem to never watch out for the cyclists.

I had one slide right into my lane yesterday.................lady yacking on her cell phone..................luckily I wasn't looking to the left or she would have nailed me. Some of that's my own fault..............I try to never stay in someones blind spot for long, but was just enjoying the ride and forgot how long I had been in hers!!!! Hopefully I'll remember now!!!

You know what makes me mad? People like I saw yesterday. He and his girlfriend were riding his new bike, no gear, she in tank top and no shoes, he had jeans, t-shirt, and boots. He barely could ride, he had to drag both feet through a yield turn at an intersection with no oncoming traffic. Endanger youself if you want but, never put your passenger in a position worse than yours! That just pisses me off!

BT, I am definetly making a bunch of assuptions about the accident... but as you said, the message stays the same...

I remember being a newbie rider too and it was just weird how the bike was laid out, but you could be absolutely correct. A car could have pulled in front, etc...

O he may ave pulled a wheelie with out wanting to. I have seen that a couple of times...

My Guess is the rider tried to pull a wheelie when the light turned green and dumped it.

New rider + New Bike + watching Biker Boyz + watching Torqe ^(amount of brain cells x.001) = trying to wheelie from intersection

Call me cynical, but this sounds like the work of the CIA... Something just doesn't seem right here. Was there a black helicopter overhead?

No, there was no helicopter, just 2 cop cars and an ambulance... guess they didn't need one for this guy.

The accident didn't look bad so I am guessing he probably turned out okay. THe only damage to the bike was on the side where it was dropped.

haha.. maybe he just dropped it at the intersection cuz of a oily spot or something... was so heartbroken cuz he just dropped his new bike without full coverage that he went into shock and had to be hauled off.

or maybe he had one of those bugs in his head like the old star trek movie (you know the one where the russian guy get that slug thing stuck in his ear and causes him to obey that kahn guy? wrath of khan maybe)
... or in chekov speak.. waybe we should wove on and stop wuessing what wappened to his wessel while widing.
