Another thinking of a Busa

Yep you control the twisty thing on the right that makes it go Vrooom. You respect it and she will show you sweet sweet love.

Yep. I said it. .02 worth.

My Buddy Andy is 6'5". He wanted a Busa until he sat on one. He doesnt like the way he fits. With his feet on the pegs his legs come up on the tank too much and force them out. So now hes looking @ cruisers. Was too small for him. Being the same height, you may find it uncomfortable as well. But comfort varies person to person, obviously.

And Im not an overly seasoned rider and feel at ease on my Busa. It's a simple matter of respect. Ride within your limits and youll be fine.

try one on in the showroom, buy it, and enjoy it

(Professor @ Jun. 06 2007,08:56) Get that MSF class under your belt. Then get a few more miles on the bike you have. As your confidence/skills improve, you'll know when you are ready to trade up. It should fit you well but you may prefer a couple of minor mods to make it fit a bit better.

I would agree with Professor. Ride what you have for awhile, then go for the busa after the MSF class. By then the new 08 busa will be out and you can pick up a sweet deal on a used one no doubt. Check out the gear at www.newenough.com. They have stuff for big guys and their prices are hard to beat. Welcome to the org, I think you found the right site weather you ride a busa or not!

(busa senior @ Jun. 07 2007,05:55) Welcome.  I am 6'3' 220lb. and switched from a fatboy to the busa.  It was like moving from a slowing moving truck to a porshe'.

I love the busa and find it very comfortable with the buell peg mod.

Can I get more info on this Buell Peg Mod??

I will be getting my Busa in two weeks when I get off of vacation.

I'm right in your weight class and I just bought a new busa about a month ago.

The difference between what you have now and the busa (or any of the liter sport bikes out there for that matter) is that the busa has the torque to lift the front end without clutching it up, or spin the back tire without you trying to f*** around.

The biggest surprise I got after I bought it, however, was how docile it is when you want it to be. If your throttle control is smooth, you'll do fine. I'm almost convinced that the break-in period is more to keep the new rider alive than to condition the engine... I wasn't perfect with the break-in rpm's, but I followed them pretty closely, and I think it helped me learn the bike a little better before getting deeper into the powerband.

If it were me I would ride what you got through the summer and grab a new busa in the fall or spring. ives you a little more experince and you can get a better deal from dealers trying to unload before winter or before the 08 hits the floor. The busa is a great bike. You might also want to look at the Suzuki M109, I have to imagine that would be way more comfortable for a big fella. But what ever you get just invest in the proper gear. Try stuff on at the dealership then come home and find it on the net. newenough.com is a good place, and you always gotta love ebay.

good luck man.

I'm really glad to see guys who do some research before a purchase like this. I lurked here at least a solid month before I bought mine. I'm 6'2" and I was having a little buyer's remorse when I took mine home from the dealership last Monday. Going from the straight up and down 90degree riding position of my V-Strom to the leaned over position of this bike was a huge change. I knew it wasn't "as bad" as a full-blown race replica bike, but it felt close. There was a lot of discomfort in my wrists at first. I gradually got more used to it as the miles racked up each day. I still didn't like it at stops. That never improved. Today, I just got some heli-bars put on. WOW! That was a great improvement. Now, I'm in a much more comfortable riding position. They are really expensive, but I have to say it's worth the price. Even though they are only a fraction different than stock bars, the difference is HUGE. If you get the bike and don't like it stock, don't worry, there's tons of mods you can do to make it better.

My wife has been riding since April 1st of this year. She rides the busa with no problem. I told her she has to respect the bike and she does. I have concidered getting rid of my Harley and getting another Busa. Definatly a good choice.

I am 6'1" and am a 270lb powerlifter.I have always wanted a sportbike but had a hard time finding one that I fit on. I used to borrow a friends 750 Ninja years ago so I have some experience but not much. I took the MSS here in NYC and have been riding my 07 Electric Blue Busa a little on the weekend to get used to it. My bike now has 90 miles on it and I couldnt be happier with it. Remember, it wont do anything that you dont tell it to do. Its only as fast as you twist. Go for it, be safe and have fun.

I'm still deciding at this point. I bought a 2006 Katana 750 and really enjoy the bike. I bought the katana because of the great price and to see if I really wanted to get into "sportbikes" at 44yrs old, lol. I've ridden many bikes since I was 8 and I'm thinking now I really want to do this for a long time so I am now thinking of a long term, plenty of power bike before I put any mods on the Katana. I've thought about the GSXR1000 but many say its too small for me, I'm 6ft 270lbs so although I like the bike and I feel okay on it I'm not sure I could do a 300 mile ride on it. Then there comes the Busa, powerful, long and friends say it makes a great sport touring "sportbike"... I've been reading a bit on this site looking for an excuse to back away and the only negative or problems I've found have been with the transmission second gear quirk. Is this rider induced or a fluke or is this something a new buyer should look out for? Just curious as to waht percentage of Busa owners really have problems with their bikes. I know on the Katana I hit a false Neutral on the way up from 5th to 6th gear and I guess its common but I'm not out on the NHRA circuit so I'm okay and live with it. I also own a 93 Goldwing, great bike but it always hits neutral when shfting up from 1st to 2nd gear, kinda like a cruiser bike, a bit clunky but its a lived with issue also. Should I buy a Busa?

I also own a 2006 Goldwing. its only good for ferrying thw wife around and giving rides to non family members. I literally use it in place of the auto.

I traded in my FJR 1300 for a 2007 busa last Friday, and it is a real motorcycle.

Go for the busa. Got mine for 10,100. on the road. Is that good or is that GOOD?

Try ARS Powersports in Sebring, Florida. They will welcome your business.

My 17 year old son rides abusa to school as acommuter a distance of 40 miles each way. Personal maturity, intelligence and reason, trumps riding experience any time.

As far as gear goes, Im 6'2 250 LBS so jackets and such are usally 3X or so. The shops here in NYC rarely have my size. I stopped looking a long time ago. I found that my best bet was buying online from reputable sites with good return or exchange policies this way if the fit is not good, I can exchange for better size.. Try these sites:

www.mawonline.com
www.chaparral-racing.com
www.denniskirk.com

As far as my input on the Busa goes, Im 37 and have been riding for 23 years now, I have had quite a few very fast bikes and rode them her in NYC were cars are not too freindly to riders.  My best advise would be take the MSF course, I waited 22 years into this hobby to do it and I got a lot out of it, including new friends to ride with.  Ride within the LIMITS of YOUR skills and if it dont feel right in your gut dont try it.

Listen to you instincts and common sense and you should make it home safe after each ride.
Also, Dont ride with clowns !! they will attract trouble every time...

Good luck

Woah, everyone knows the fastest color is the 06 LE white with ghost flames.

The busa is a badass bike and you will love it. I mean I can't get enough of mine. Superfast and smooth and very comfy.

The bike is as fast as you twist the throttle, just make sure that you know that it is much touchier and more responsive. Less room for error. Less forgiving so to speak I guess. But it is an awesome bike just respect it and be on the side of caution.

Don't want you to think its hard to ride, its easy and well mannored. But when you want it to tear the road up it will and in a hurry.

Don't forget half of riding is not just the bike but the elements around you.

And you may want to wait since the new 08 is right around the corner. If you don't like it you probably can get a better deal on a 07 or earlier.

If you want a Busa, then get a Busa. I am 42 years young and I have never regretted it. I have seen riders not show the Busa the respect it deserves and they have paid the price for their foolishness. One lost his life while others lost skin, and their insurance went way up. Always respect the Busa, and she will always show you some great love.

Have fun, and take it slow.
