Anybody see that show 'An army of one'?

I watched it... Thought it was a good show... but did you notice that kid was probably 1/2 the age of the other guys.. I know experience plays a role and all.. but speed and endurance usually will prevail in the end. I would have liked to have seen another older guy in the mix with the same experience as the others it would have been more interesting.. or some younger guys and see how it turns out. Good for him though.

What's the deal with you and Texans? Did I miss something????

i'll take a stab at this one;

Living in Texas is like peeling off a Scab, you think its a really good idea at the time, but it just ends up geting infected. been here in abilene for over 2Yrs and i am just about ready to "gargle some buckshot".. cant wait for my next assignment:banghead:

sorry if stating a fact offends some.....

sorry if i refuse to jump on the anti-(insert minority group) band wagon.

I a have to be me, I am afterhours.....champion of the gay, women, black, non-christian or aetheist...and just about anyone else that wants equality and is persecuted by the "moral majority".

PS: if you have served, you served next to a gay man or woman. you just did not know it.

Unfortunately what you dont seem to understand like most pro-(insert silly liberal group here) dont is that military service is not about being open or being an individual. It is about being a UNIFORM group that OBEYS orders no matter what your orientation or color. UNIFORMITY UNIFORMITY UNIFORMITY. People trying to stand out because of their skin color, religion, or sexual orientation have NO RIGHT in the military. Period. Uniformity defines the nature of effective military forces. You differ from that and you become less effective.

So all I have to say is get over it.

P.S. as far as I am concerned gays have a right in the military but they do not have a right if they plan on standing out because of it.

Sounds like a show that might intrest me, so (please) what channel is it on and when? I will try and record it.

As far as the `gay` issue, I have known a few girls and a couple of guys that were gay. I accepted them as friends, but all of them kind of kept to themselves about it (this was 20 yrs ago so maybe they would be more open today?). The one gay guy was my best friends father, and I guess he died a hideous death from aids...he always treated me with kindness and respect-almost like one of his own. FWIW
I personally don`t really understand why someone is gay...umm, just because I was PROGRAMMED to be attracted to the opposite sex....had a crush on kindergarten teacher..no lie!

Afterhours you didn't insult me with your opinion or the truth but I think you offended one and a couple others when you called one a 'bigot'. You have a right to your opinion and right to express it but whilst doing so you need not insult people. I enjoy hearing others opinions. I just don't like it when folks cannot express themselves without insulting others. PocketRocket and Skydivr have responded to your posts here without insult even after you did so to one of them. Just try to express yourself in a mature manner which I know you can.

Made a small change. Otherwise good post.

It's T.V. It's entertainment. Written and edited for a purpose. It's not to be taken seriously!

To make a decision on what someone should be allowed to do, based on nothing but who they choose to have sex with is wrong. I do not know another word for it, perhaps it is my ignorance.

a look in a thesaurus will show :racist, dogmatist, extremist, fanatic, fiend, and maniac as synonyms but those do no fit into the context of the discussion. if it offended anyone I appologize. I should be better than that, and find more constructive ways to get my message across.

the anti-gay proponants will argue that to openly allow gays disrupts the unit. it creates discord and will be a distraction. they want to show pictures of drag queens, and flamboyant, flaming homo's marching in parades to support thier hatred.

but the fact is there are thousands of gay men and women in the military right now. they are not wearing makeup, "daisy dukes", they are however under the constant fear of being "outed". We talk about the sacrifice that a soldier makes, we honor it, we respect it...we glorify it.

yet none of that matters if he is gay....

we have had several heated discussions on the "Pledge"....about whether we are "one nation under god", only to ignore "with liberty and justice for all" when it comes to gays.

I don't want to offend anybody here. I spent 7 1/2 years in the infantry and I can tell you the general opinion is that gays (male and female) shouldn't be in the army. You don't join to be in a club or belong to a particular group. You join to do a very important job. Sure gays can do the job just as well as straight people which supporters of the argument are quick to point out. What they don't think about is the fact that when you are in the military you do everything together, EVERYTHING. When you do that it creates a lot of problems by itself. Throw in gays and straights in the showers and sleeping together and it creates an unecessary problem. That is a very big problem that is easily curbed by the rules in place right now. You can look at it as if they made everything gender neutural. Woman would be extremely uncomfortable. Maybe not all, but the majority. That is basically why things are the way they are. People can hate all they want, but that is how it is and if you serve or have served you will know that is the majority opinion and mine. I also diagree with woman working anywhere near combat (anywhere off a base) because of the things I have seen with my own eyes. But that is another story. Just trying to explain things to some people who don't understand.

Back to the show, I was rooting for the delta guy. I didn't like the gay guy before he came out becuase he was being really cocky and becuase he wasn't the delta guy. But it's cool that he won, except that he beat the delta guy.

NoSlacks, you hit the nail on the head. When you sign that dotted line, you give up some of your rights. Being put in tight quarters with no privacy with people you may not even like being one of them; free speach being another. Yes, there are plenty of gay people who serve, but they knew the deal when they signed the dotted line - don't ask, don't tell. DADT was a reasonable compromise to let gay people serve, yet maintain good order and discipline. Lifting DADT creates so much trouble for the commander that DISTRACTS from the military's SOLE purpose of defending this nation that it's mindboggling - all for someone's personal 'right' - which they willingly gave up when they volunteered. Call me whatever name you want, it doesn't change the truth.

I too do not agree with women in combat and have previously stated my reasons. Than you noslack for your service. AIRBORNE!
