Are akrapovic pipes overhyped?

I have been looking for a full system exhaust for my 06 and the price differences are VAST.I know you get what you pay for but a muzzy is less than 600 while an akrapovic is around a grand or so.What gives? And im not talking about the high end titanium ones either.

I have two bikes with the Akrapovic Evolution....all I can say is ya get what ya pay for

So lets say i go with a muzzy full system +pc3 + custom map vs the same thing but an akrapovic pipe instead. How much of a horsepower difference would there be? I know it would vary from bike to bike but in general?

It's not just HP but the way it fits, how it sounds and what it doesn't burn through. Everytime I wreck my akro system on my race bike I buck up and spend the cash for another even when $$$ is tight.

what matters is how much power a system
makes vs. another system @ the RPM range that you will use it

This may or may not be of any help. Right next to my busa sits a 03 zx12. This bike is notorious for low end flat spots with aftermarket exhaust systems. First i tried a muzzy. It made great power on top,but it was so awfull from idle to 4000,i had to pull it off. A year later i tried a yosh system, not as bad as the muzzy but far from glitch free. I pulled that one off also.

Then i finnaly listened and found a good deal on a akra. Fit and finnish is fantastic and the bike was transformed. Now the bike is smooth and strong from idle to redline. Worth twice the price imo

Akra makes great power increases throughout the RPM range - not just up top.

The quality, fit, and sound is well worth the money!

There again, it depends on your budget. I have the race system on the Busa and the Evo on the R1 track bike.

Go with the Evo if you can....
