Are Motorcycle Tires a Ripoff? The Darkside Car Tire Experiment

Back on Topic . 6 years ago I did major upgrades / repairs to a 2006 FJR1300 that the owner had been running car tires on for the last 40,000 miles commuting . I let him ride my FJR , and he decided to go back to a motorcycle tire . When I removed the car tire it was 18 pounds heavier than the motor cycle new tire , and it was worn out . Shortly after all repairs his transmission gave out . This Marine was a older gentleman who owned since new . He was perplexed on how . I said car tire most likely . Since I did not want the case split job it was taken to the Yamaha dealer . Upon taking the motor out , and finding worn dogs / dog holes / shift forks the big issue is the FJR uses a large coil spring to apply force to the middle drive gears it was worn due the extra load of tire weight / friction . It coast him about 3 k in parts labor to get the bike fixed .

I saw you post this elsewhere. Absolute no evidence the ct caused a transmission issue. None, nada, zip, zilch.

I‘ve heard of that problem when bikes pull trailers. Some dealers won’t install hitches on bikes, even Goldwings and Hawgs for that reason. Warranty problems can arise as well.

ya most Dark side riders never want to admit its the dumbest thing since jumping out of a plane without a parachute Wonder why Jeeps with a Dana 35 break with 35" tires , but Dana 44's dont ? Ge must be the the 44 is meant for a larger wheel / tire load than the 35 .
Same applies in all drive trains . Overload it , and failure will occur .
Just because it works does not mean its right Next up Russian roulette is a safe game 5 out of 6 times
