awesome ride ..but end up in a gravel fight

what difference did the slider really make here??

still gonna hafta paint/replace the fairing.. ..

I've never put sliders on anything just because I keep seeing pics like this one..

whether it broke or whatever doesn't really matter.. still scratched up the fairing and killed the canister.

He didn't wreck hard enough to damage the motor to start with so I guess it could possibly help in that manner.. I just don't see it.

Even with the slider in place it still groudn down the little hump where the motor sticks out on that side.. so it looks like it was still just the fairing being the only thing between the motor and the ground.

plus they look stupid.

Well its obvious they did quite a bit of work. No question he would have had more damage without them. THough better ones may have save a little more.

I feel your pain buddy.....mine ended up in the ROCKS, not just gravel....your bike looks much better than mine! Looks like the sliders definitely helped...

Glad you are OK!

So I see that in Cali you all have an Interstate 210 also?

We have one here in Lake Charles, but it's only a looping interstate that takes you around the entire city...

where he went down was rough gravel - an pretty uneven surface of rocks, dirt and serious hardpack. I was impressed that the slider didn't snap off in those conditions. Yeah, the fairings got scratched up, but the oil case avoided a direct hit and the exhaust can only took a few dents + didn't rip off its hinges. Given the surface he went down on, he rode the bike home + there's nothing mechanically wrong, so the sliders DID help to an extent. Beats trucking the bike home from the middle of nowhere.

I'd agree with dirt-bike experience. Just a day on a dirtbike will teach you loads about what you can get away on a motorcycle, and how to deal with hairy situations....

ive been down on both sides with sliders and they have been the difference between liveable scratches and replacing a fairing. Plastics have the regular scratches everyone has noting serious. I think sinces the LP are carbon they will snap when too much pressure is put to them. The derlin ones i had bent and didnt snap, buty they bent that unbendable bolt! Bike doesnt look to bad for being donw in gravel but it is gonna need a paint job.

Did you slide and the wait got away from you or were you slidin sideways? Did you try and put your feet down?

i was tryin to slow down from a downhill decent a little too fast..as soon as i hit the gravel..the rear locked up and started headin to the right...i tried to counter to the right (and avoid "big o" at the same time) but i guess i hit a bump and you can figure out the rest from there...yes i tried to put my foot down also as it is a natural reaction if your bike is goin down but my body was leaned way too much to the front for me to try and catch it...

another thing i want to do is figure out a way to take out the bolt as it is bent back..im trying here and there to bent it back and hopefully screw it out...anybody else have any other ideas???

Glad to hear you're ok! I have been putting off the frame sliders but I think your experience has inspired me to get them soon!

glad to be of help..i guess from my experience just get them...so instead of buying new fairings..now all i gotta do is figure out how much it is going cost me to repaint the darn fairing to original specs..i guess i will find out monday..

can you get up a pic so we can get a better idea of what you have to work with. When my bolt bent the sliders was still attatched so i twisted teh bent slider

I just don't see how it helped all that much ... yah.. he could ride it home.. big deal.. hah I rode mine home after lowsiding it at 40mph and slid down a hill backwards with no frame slides.. the only difference in what damage he has.. and what damage I had was was mine has scratches all along the fairing... his exhaust is actually worse than mine was.. (I'll contribute that to the rocks)

The oil case hit the ground in both cases.. didn't slide far enough to grind completely thru the fairing was all that saved either one of them.

The biggest problem I had was a FUBAR'ed rear brake lever... which I sorta wonder wasn't what caused the low side anyway..

it was bent backwards.. and I know after the buell peg mod it had touched the ground a few times.. I wonder if it didn't catch on something and break the rear lose..

I can't think of any other reason it would have bent away from the way the bike was sliding.. just don't add up ya know..

anyway.. just ranting.. yall keep buying frame slides and pokin holes in your fairings.. I'll save the money and put it toward the same new fairing/paint your gonna hafta buy even if you drop it in the driveway with the sliders on..

well unless you can live with scratches.. I personally can't.

Glad you're OK and you had a nice ride anyway! Sorry about your scooter all scraped up!!! I have been through the gravel "learning curve". I did it early on and not on my BUSA Thank GOD!!! However, I did end up having ACL repair because of it. It doesn't matter how slow you are going! %#$ happens! I have a healthy "fear" of gravel!!!

Brahamabull, glad you're okay. Busahaya told me about it today when I asked him about the ride you guys had yestersday. Hit me up about the wet buff and repaint. I might be able to hook you up with my sister's BF that owns a autobody shop. You'll likely have to tear off the fairings yourself though.

Sorry about the gravel, but otherwise it looks like a good run...

Gravel Sucks! I believe that was the name of the thread I started just weeks after buying my Busa. I dropped it in my driveway...happy to report I'm now a professional at maneuvering the Busa in gravel...
