Bad situation, needing some advice

ive been to traffic court too many times to remember...and have never seen an officer who knows what hes doing lose. i live in so cal, and judges here normally side with the cop (hate to say it, but they are normally right, and dont right tickets they dont think theyll win) theyre hard to beat... your best bet is making friends with another cop, and having him ask his buddy to miss court. they only way to win is if he is not radar trained, or did not calibrate at the beginning of shift, but if hes ever testified before, that will all be included in his statement.

at least he only towed the bike for the day, in cal that is a thirty day impound.....good luck

(DeRos @ Jul. 25 2006,17:07) cost me $175 to get it out of the impound, then he ticketed me $142 for doing 15mph over and $245 for not having my endorsement.
$562.00 man my license only cost me $15.00. do the math and get your license

Over here in the UK, we can't register and tax a new bike without insurance, which you can't get without a license.
Registration is a one off for the life of the vehicle. Approx 60 GBP
Tax is an annual road fund licence. Currently 63 GBP.
Insurance must cover third party liability at the least. Mine was 769 GBP this year, fully comprehensive, but it drops with a "no claims bonus" annually.
Getting a license (endorsment to you yanks) in the UK is a pain in the ass! We aren't allowed on public roads untill we've passed a Compulsary Bike Test, which is current for 2 years. Then we have to take a theory and hazard perception test. We are limited to 125cc bikes until we pass a test. There are 2 categories of test....
A1. Taken on a 125cc machine. After passing, you are limited to a power output of 33BHP for 2 years, then unlimited. A1 becomes just A.
A. Taken on a machine of 45 BHP or more. This is called Direct Access and you have to be 21 years or more. After passing the world is your oyster!
A or A1 is the endorsment on your license.
My wife has just passed her CBT and is learning what it's all about on a 125cc bike. When she's ready, her instructor will bump her up onto a 500cc for her direct access training.
It cost's a small fortune to get on 2 wheels over here. I was lucky and did my test 20 years ago when it was a lot easier. I did one off road test and then my proper test. It was just a guy on foot who watched me ride round a housing estate for 20 minutes. As long as you got through in one piece you passed back then! LOL. Now we have a persute style test, with the examiner on a bike, or in a car, behind you giving instruction through a radio headset!
What's the procedure like on the other side of the pond?

(Gunslinger14647 @ Sep. 14 2006,21:00) To the guy who said, "and cops wonder why people hate them".  That's just about as ignorant statement as I've seen lately.  Just because you get caught (finally) does not make us the bad guy.  People like you and I meet because of what YOU did and not for any other reason.  Man up and accept responsibility when you get nailed for being stupid on the road.

Granted he deserved the ticket for no licence, and yeah you got caught speeding, so no harm there just the leo doing his job.

But whats the point in having it towed when he could push it across the street to his house. No reason other than to be a Dikchead.

Out in California you pay $175USD or so to take a basic Motorcycling safety course (classroom and riding on little 125cc bikes) and at the end of the course they test you on what they have taught you. If you pass you take your passing slip of paper and go get your license (M1 certification) to ride anything you want.

Yeah it's pretty easy.

Warwgn,

Each officer decides to what degree he or she will enforce the law. The "letter" of the law states that the officer has the right to impound the motorcycle regardless of the location. Like I said, if I stopped an unlicensed rider, regardless of his/her location, I am taking that bike. I need to be assured that the rider KNOWS how to handle a bike. The only way I am going to feel sure of the rider's competence is if he/she has obtained an endorsement. I don't care if the stop is in the riders yard/driveway. It's not "Ollie-Ollie-Oxenfree". No license, DON'T RIDE!!! I mean really: which excuses do I believe and which do I not??? You had to get to the location where I stopped you, right??? Unlicensed riders have become pandemic. That rider's excuse is hardly the first I have heard the day he/she gets stopped. If I had a nickle for every, "But officer, I..." It gets tiresome to hear these BS excuses and then see the result of some squid who can't handle his/her bike, as what's left rests under a bigrig. Who gets to call the family afterwards??? ME! You try that and then tell me I should lighten up. Just my two cents; I'm not angry about your comment, I'm just tired of calling family members of unlicensed riders and trying to explain why my officers didn't catch him first. Godspeed!!
