Bike Heat

Haha... I have to give a small but deserved chuckle out to all the hot bikes from other areas of the country... Try ARIZONA for HOT!!! I've only had my Busa about 2 months and one day before it got really hot I took frontage roads to get home because the lines to get on the freeway were too long. After the third 10 minute stop light the fan was on and the temp guage was up in the red and I actually got to see the little Bright red light come on. I pulled into a parking lot and let it cool for 20 minutes and took another route home. Everything seemed normal after I got to a constant non-stop-and-go speed. I haven't seen that happen again but the bike felt like it was on fire and the outside temps weres only in the 90's that day. The past too weeks it's been over 110!

One last thing... I finally got bit by the Bus yesterday. I was wearing shorts after doing an oil change (Synthetic at 3k all the way!) and I took the bike out for a 10 minute ride, came back, parked, dismounted and zap. I got my right shin on front of the pipe. That's gonna leave a mark!

LOL....I just did the same thing....ouch.

CHEERS TO THE BALL BURNING.. I TOO HAVE SUFFERED THAT UNCOMFORTABLE COOKING OF THE LOWER BALL REIGON... AFTER LOOKING AFTER THE PROS AND CONS OF GETTING RID OF MY BUSA... I DECIDED TO CUT MY BALLS OFF INSTEAD.. NO MORE BURNING BALLS... BUT NOW MY JOHNSON IS JUST ABOUT MEDIUM WELL ALL THE TIME... I DIDNT REALIZE THE BALLS WERE THE ONLY THING KEEPING MY SMALL BUT IMPORTANT MANHOOD FROM COOKING LIKE A BALLPARK FRANK

MY OTHER IDEA IS TO NEVER STOP RIDING.. SCREW ALL THOSE STOP SIGNS AND RED LIGHTS.. WE ARE BUSA RIDERS... WE ARE ABOVE THE LAW... WE STOP FOR NOTHING ... DUE TO THE FACT THAT OUR BALLS WILL BURN IF WE DO.. AND TO ALL THE LADY BUSA RIDERS OUT THERE.. YUUUUUUUUUUUK JUST THE THOUGHT OF THAT THING HEATING UP .... CAN ANYONE SAY CLAMS CASINO...

I like the way you think JFK....

Seriously you folks in the dessert or any "DRY" Heat climate have it made. Simply take a water bottle/garden hose and wet yourself down before you ride and at stop lights etc. In the Dry climates this is the cats-ass... I used to be in my leathers and helmet in Colorado in 100 degree sun shivering at 55mph due to the amount of evaporation. Give yourself a squirt inside your helmet vents, across the front of your jeans, and across your neck and shoulders. It's make all of the difference in the world...

You fellow Heat and Humidity folks... I still haven't figured out a good solution. I mean as long as we keep moving it's not too bad...

So far... UnderArmor HEAT GEAR Undershirts work really well at keeping me more comfortable, But I haven't figured out a whole lot else... I just sweat and get miserable, thats all....

Man I got my Busa on Tuesday its my second bike and I have been riding for 6 months now total. I love this machine Im breakin it it still only has 194 miles on her and my first bike was a 03 Katana 750. First no heat off that one but no fan oil cooled. Second even only going to 5500 rpms this thing is fun as hell Glad I bought it already. And last in Florida Good God im getting cooked the air from the farings sucks. I wonder what would happen if i reverse the fan. It only seems to be on when Im parked in traffic anyways.

I wouldn't run right out and bother messing with the fan. First off, contrary to popular thought, the blasts of heat are not from the fan turning on. I've checked and found that there is a periodic large heat dispursment that happens even when the fan is off. It does happen on the left which would lead you right to the fan but if you disconnect the fan, the left side heat blasts continue. It must be something related to the cooling system going through a cycling of hot coolant or something. I've put in Engine Ice and did the Muzzy fan upgrade also. There is a barely noticable difference in the prime Florida heat. In cooler conditions I notice much more of a difference now that the Engine Ice is in there. I've found that the best way to deal with this is to keep your legs away from the bike an inch or so and let cool air run between you and the bike. This actually works pretty good. As others will say, this is a hot bike and learning to cope with it's heat is about the only option.

To the guy who said get the headers ceramic coated and also mentioned using header wrap this is your warning.....

Do not I repeat do not do both. Never coat and wrap a header pipe (or anything else for that matter). If you do both you cause too much heat sink and the metal becomes extremely brittle and will literally fall apart. One or the other is fine just not both.

Would a ceramic coating on the headers reduce the heat to the rider?

Also, where could you get something like that done?

camero02...

Rev's comment about the header wrap and the ceramicote did not say use them together.

He stated you could use the wrap or if you wanted to spend the money and time invest in the ceramicote.

Sorry if I'm on your toes Rev.

That's fine, I just didn't want somebody to read that and think they could do both to get rid of even more heat. I know a lot of guys who have made that mistake on their cars. I wasn't trying to be a bobo, just wanted to make sure it was clarified.

Oh and as for places that do it, I would recommend a company called Jet-Hot, I have them do all my stufffor my drag cars.

As for wether or not iot would help with the heat, I'm sure it would help some but I don't know how much.

ok , ok , ok, the heat thing is getting out of control.. If you can afford a busa, you can afford an egyptian dancing girl to ride on the front and wave palm leaves across your lower region thereby cooling off the ball park frank in question... either that or refer to my earlier post as to never stopping long enough to let it heat up... Only problem is geeeeee whiz , im dreaming my liiiiiiife away... dreeeeeeeeam dream dream dream, oooooooops sorry. Sometimes I just break into a song.. my bad...

A friend of mine wrapped the headers and the rest of the pipe with Thermotec exhaust wrap, and said it made a world of difference on his legs.
I believe that having the engine coolant running 50 degrees cooler will have almost no effect on the exhaust pipe heat your feeling. Just my opinion and experience.

Thanks for the Jet-Hot reference. Only $145 bucks + $25 return shipping. Not bad. They say it lowers the surface tempurature about 30% and lasts for 10 years or more.

Thats the stuff, and they should have colors available too. Sorta add a bit of pimp to your pipes. Hayabusaman has his ceramicoated and said that it does make a noticable difference. They wear coated inside and out witch I thought was interesting... It's good stuff...

Camaro02, Good point but yeah, I wasn't meaning use them together. If I have a choice I'll have mine cerami-coated, I saw a silver coating that looked pretty cool...

Now what about the "DONT USE HEADER WRAP ON TITANIUM Exhaust Systems!" ANyone know anything about why not? Makes no sense to me, Titanium is tough enough... It can take the heat...

I'm no metalurgist but my understanding is that titanium doesn't do well at all when it can't dissipate excess heat.  It supposedly breaks down and eventually crumbles.  As long as it can dissipate the heat, like when it's unwrapped, it does well.
