Bike Stands

It also slipped on my K8 during the first oil change. It is hard to get it lined up even with someone holding the bike for you. It is also too short in the handle and a ***** to lift almost 500 lbs. The bike jumped off the right side and fell over. Luckily I had TWO people holding my K8 when it slipped and we all managed to wrestle the stand out from under the bike when it fell on it. It scrached up the bottom of my right-hand stock pipe, but you cannot see it. If it had been the new carbon-fiber Akrapovic I plan to put on next season I would have gone looking for someone to kick their ass. One of the friends helping me said he would never use that stand again without first putting it into the Baxley Sport chock I have, and I will heed that advice until I can afford another stand. :banghead:

the right side is harder to line up cause the bike leans to the left a bit. if you turn your frt tire to the right it helps lean the bike up some. I also always look to make sure its positioned fully b4 lifting the rest of the way.

I use Pitbulls front and rear because they were the beefiest, one piece, hold a dump truck up forever looking stands I could find. Love'm  Well worth the money.
I like peace of mind

I just ordered a Vortex. What is wrong with them that caused you to drop your 06 and would it be different on my K8?

I use the Vortex rear stand on my bikes (see signature) with no problems at all. Could it be that Vortex has another model of rear stand that is different from the one I have?

Thanks BigBSBUsa. I'm trying to understand, so maybe this is more an issue of semantics/lingo here... but when looking at this link :

REDLINE ENGINEERING - SPORTBIKE STANDS FOR YAMAHA SUZUKI KAWASAKI HONDA

I see a front stand, a rear spool, and a rear roller. I don't actually see anything labeled as a rear stand, though the rear spool looks like a 'rear stand' to me. I'll be happy to order with Redline, so perhaps I just need to give Ian a call and get schooled a bit so I can figure out what exactly I need. But feel free to 'splain things for me if you can. Thanks for the patience! =)

It is just a matter of terminology. There are 2 types of rear stands - one that involves putting the swingarm on rollers or pads (rear roller), and that supports the bike using spools attached to the swingarm (rear spool). Believe the majority of folks use the spool variety for some added security, so that would be my recommendation. Most here will refer to them as front and rear stands and leave any further explanation for later. And to truly complicate things the front stand comes in either the fork or triple clamp variety.

That's why I have the grab bar on my bike at all times.

Ah, I see... thanks for the clarification... and the bit of added confusion!
