This man is most likely of one those people who blindly tiptoes through life in 4 wheeled Utopia living the American dream that no harm can come to him whilst behind the wheel of his gas guzzling 4 wheeled monstrosity. So he chooses to instead use his position as a public sports personality to express his obviously poorly educated opinion of motorcycles and motorcyclists. And who do we have to thank for this? One equally inept pro football Quarterback who just happened to have chosen a machine which I also own to drive into the side of a car sans even basic protective equipment, Legal driving endorsement or for that matter a small dose of common sense. His problem for me is not that he wrecked, not that he had no helmet, not that he had no endorsement, my problem is that he had an invaluable opportunity to send a positive message to America’s youth who respect and revere the man as a Super bowl winning Quarterback and also a role model real or imagined. He chose to say nothing and hide behind friends and Lawyers and cower from the onslaught of critics. And because of this you now condemn all who partake of the enjoyment the basic freedom and privilege a motor-vehicle, not just any motor-vehicle but a Motorcycle provides.
He mentions Corvettes in his ranting. Corvettes are in their fastest form still on the steep edge of the performance curve as far as street cars go. Various Porsches, Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and Buggati’s far exceed the top speed capabilities of the Z06 Corvette to say nothing of even the fastest motorcycles. But let’s not focus on those. Why? Because they cost Hundreds of thousands of dollars and this places them far out of reach for us commoners who for one reason or another choose 2 wheels instead of four. Why are the owners of these exotic autos not scrutinized and harassed in the media for owning these 4 wheeled apex predators?
Seven years ago when the Hayabusa was introduced the motorcycle manufacturers were threatened by people not unlike you about a stock motorcycles ability to achieve such frighteningly high speeds. Stating erroneously that, these very high speeds involved were the single largest contributor to all of the motorcycle related fatality accidents in the United States. To say nothing of the ever increasing ratio of alcohol or auto related motorcyclist fatalities. The manufacturers responded in kind by subsequently limiting all motorcycles sold on the planet to a self imposed 300KPH (186mph) maximum. No such agreement has been reached by auto manufacturers.
What this person is ranting about is ultra liberal soap box chest pounding not unlike outlawing Assault rifles (remember that first amendment?) or building and driving Kit cars, Hot rods or owning fast boats (no license even necessary there). You and those like you are the sort of people who trample, amend and generally make a mockery of the very constitution that young Americans are fighting and dying for in far away lands at this very moment. You do this and then say that our forefathers had no idea that what they wrote would be taken so literally and to such extremes. America needs a large dose of real true facts and data instead of this sort of sensationalism and ill informed blathering about which you so freely spout.
