California peeps: Has the state failed?

"Common Sense" isn't. Most of the people out there now have been taught and raised to believe that the world owes them something. The only entitlement any creature on this planet is given is oxygen. Everything else requires effort or the result is death.

Social services everywhere need time limits. They need to be a hand up, not a handout. Welfare programs all need a cap on how much applicants can get, and how many times they can get it. We also need to take of our own first, because we can't help others if we are starving to death. We all need to be accountable for or own choices, and quit focusing on everyone else. Getting rid of PC rules would help a lot. Why do we need so many laws to protect peoples feelings?

As far as religion, I won't go there right now. I have nothing to say that wouldn't start a fight with someone.

When 95% of the total wealth of the country is in the hands of the top 5% of the population and the government caters to them, no ammount of hard work is going to reduce the rate of poverty in this country. I disagree that most people feel the world owes them something. If fact I think most people want to work and be productive. Yet the jobs are just not there. Ask the good members here that have been laid off.

I do agree about the notion of social services being a hand up rather than a hand out. But too many profit from poverty to really make that happen.

159 years ago this fall... back in 1850:

California became a state.
The people had no electricity.
The state had no money.
Almost everyone spoke Spanish.
There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically, nothing has changed except the women had real boobs
and the men didn't hold hands.

There is an old saying. In the US, when the neighbor gets a new car, you want a new car. In old russia, when your neighbor gets a new cow, you want it to die. I'm just saying. We need our successful peeps, without them we will all be waxing cars for the Chineese one day soon, IMHO.
