Never heard of the thing around here in South Carolina . Is it just a motorcycle liscence ?

yes some states actually make you take the motorcycle safety course and then an actual riding test to be able to operate a motorcycle in the state

O.K. .....here in hillbilly land , U go take a written/computer test and You will recieve a motorcycle "permit" . With the permit , the only restriction is U can't leave the state and it's only good for 1 year . Then U must take the "driving" test to get the "real" license . I've had mine since 1986 !

I always wondered what the hell an endorsement was !

Yeah.. it's just a notation on your Driver's License that says 'Motorcycle also"~ The new ones here in Florida actually put a smaller pic of your normal pic on the license too~ So if you get pulled over on a bike they don't have to look for the small print to see if you are licensed to ride... they just look for the smaller pic to be there also...

Guess every state is different . Some of the squids around here could use a MSF course ! Guess I've just learned the hard way ......20 years of riding and 4 wrecks , I got it down pat now !

In the "real" hillbilly land aka Alabama... you go take a computer/written test and you get a cycle license with no restrictions! No driving/ride test required. And yeah, they add the M endorsement to your current driver's license (if you have one).

I got mine in 1980 in a small town in Georga, passed the written and then we walk outside to my bike. you got a love this. now gather around and listen up.
the cop tells me to drive around the block, so I get on the bike put my helmet on then looking around I see the cop is just standing on the sidewalk. I'm thinking he was going to follow me and see how I do. I ask him how is he going to know.
He says if you come back and your not scratched up I know you did ok.

I passed the test.

I had to swerve thru cones , stop on an incline and take off with out rolling back more than 2 inches . Drive at 30 mph and stop within a predetermined distance .

i was in the navy in california when oklahoma made the motorcycle endorsement i got back home it was past the grandfather stage so everyone was having to take the test i went down to the dmv told the guy i had been in the military and he asked if i knew how to ride and just gave me the endorsement:D

Stop on an incline, now that brings back memories.

My first bike was a Yamaha 305 2 stroke.
I was leaving a parking lot with a steep incline, never hade a problem b4 went to this place many times.
Well this day it had been raining and the road was wet, no I didn't fall down. I stalled it, I wore cowboy boots back then you know the ones with the hard leather sole. So when I went to start it back up no electric starter my foot slips off the kick start and hits me in the shin. It hurt so bad I had to ease the bike back down the hill and get off a bit and check out my leg.

Funny how one word can bring back memories.

Hey don't feel bad, the Governor of California doesn't even know what one is....

Here in southern Louisiana if you can talk on a cell phone and walk at the same time they figure you should be able to drive anything, bikes, cars, trucks and even short haul rigs.
The cycle endorsement was a written test and a few figure 8's in the parking lot. Got the big M on the license and have had it ever since.
I'm finding plenty people here do not have them and some are regretting that descision now. It's a ticket at least from a LEO and your insurance is predicated on the fact that you have one.
Get it and be done my friend...

Ok,so to clarify things....isn't an endorsement (the little stupid "M" on your regular drivers license) the same as a moptorcycle license?
rock.gif

And....if you didn't have this, one would assume that you were driving a motorcycle on a "learners permit" if you were trying to uphold the law???

So now, lets go back to the post where DeRos says he dont have an endorsement.....
Does he have a learners permit??
