Usually i fill my filter with oil before i fill the crank case. Will it hurt it to just fill the crank case with out filling the filter ? Thanks !

I would think not...
mainly because I've never filled mine when changing~

messy

I fill the filter about half way, just so something is in there, and if you're careful, you can put it back on without spilling any.

I would think the oil would simply fill the filter as you're pouring oil into the crankcase. The filter sure does drain easy enough when you are removing it.

Nope, I never fill the filter before starting. Would make a mess trying to get it on.

Just be sure to check your oil level after running it for a minute

In most engines just filling the crankcase won't fill the filter until the engine is started due to the fact that the oil pump must provide the oil to the oiling system.
