Charges are dropped.

Its just sad that things like this keep coming up. They should know by now how much trouble it will cause if things are not handled right. He will have to live with what he done and maybe that will just drive him so crazy he will take care of it himself. YEA RIGHT! I am sure he will do it again. SO sad

Stereotypes exist due to the 1% that make themselves known.

VB its the same with gun owners or anyone who owns an evil black 'assault style' rifle.
The knucklehead who goes into Mickey D's and shoots a bunch of people makes all the rest think that anyone who owns a gun is just days away from doing same thing.
When was last time (other than female security guard who shot the guy outside of church) that you heard on CNN 'Gun owner uses his to save lives' ?

But it's just not about stereotyping...the biggest problem here is that LEOs are supposed to be our protectors, not predators. How can you rely on another LEO to protect you next time when you see all these happening around...so frequently.

Again its the same as I stated above. You dont hear every day on CNN how a LEO saved a little old lady but instead hear what we are talking about today.

"If it bleeds it leads" and good things are boring as far as the news is concerned.

Can you count for me how many times you have read a story about police abuse of power? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say 100 stories in your lifetime (not sure how old you are.) And let's assume that for every story, there are 10 more cases that go unreported (I'm being very generous here.) That's 1000 cases of LEO abuse.

Now, care to guess how many law enforcement officers are employed in the United States?

Roughly 650,000, that's maybe 1 out of 650 officers that has misbehaved or abused their position. I realize I'm being terribly unscientific here, but it's more an illustration of how stereotypes can cloud your judgement. It's as if to say that all black people are criminals or all Hispanics are lazy or all white people are racists. It's horrible when we judge a group of people based on the most shocking and prevalent news stories. Like Blanca said, nobody reports on the good stories, but they will surely report every negative one.

Yes, there are some bad eggs, but that's human nature.

True.

And I think cops come to the table with the dice loaded against them a little bit. You can have similar things happen with fire fighters like in the thread story, but there isn't a general undertone of dislike for fire fighters, so it doesn't carry on like with cops. The dislike for cops by some is likely due to those people having issues with authority figures for all sorts of personal reasons, or they have had contact with some badge heavy jerk in their past.

I think it just comes with the territory......

Basically you and I are making kinda same point. Stereotyping is bad..period... I'm not kinda guy who stereotypes... people who knows me knows that for sure.

the additional point I was trying to make is that stereotyping in another case, wont impact much as ones life is not directly linked to it... but in cases like this, if the fear gets into the mind of common people that the protector is not there to protect and rather as predator, then people starts taking things into their own hand..which is dangerous.

So basically I'm trying to say is that LEOs breaking rules should be punished harder as they shouldve known better and they have the responsibility to uphold the image of law...so that public dont take things on their own hand and rely on LEOs.

Yes, I agree, they should be held to a higher standard. Sorry if I misunderstood.
