Ok guys and girls, Poll time.

Why did you or why are you going to choose one or the other???

Money?

Size?

Features??

Whats the story? I have all of the above. I have had them for a while and I like them all for there own reason.

Now I want to know why you all are choosing one over the other. In last month I have sold 10 Q2 units to 1 Chatterbox unit and I would like to have your input on why this is.

I cant wait to hear what you all have to say. There maybe a sell coming up on the one with the most votes in the near future.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of one over the other?

hey you turned on comments..

Scala rider is suited for 1 or 2 other people in the group or you just need your phone or other Bluetooth device paired..

The Chatterbox allows an entire group to communicate at one time.. (and you can get the bluetooth option as well..

I have 2 chatterboxes and now I think I will get a Scala for my solo time

Josh, I am looking for a system right now. I have looked at Scala & the range is not very far for bike to bike & I can't hook my Ipod into it. The Chatterbox is very bulky.

What would you suggest for good bike to bike w/ poss a few miles range. The ability to listen to my Ipod, & low wind noise?

We have chatterbox, and they are ok, but quality is not the best and they pricey when purchased new. I may try something different next time around.

I have not had Chatterbox, but the girlfriend and I do have SCALA Q2 headsets.

PROS:
-Sound quality with the bike-to-rider or bike-to-bike is great. Even the sound quality with the Bluetooth to your cell phone is excellent.
-Its not bulky at all, speakers in helmet are small too, hard to even know there in there when wearing helmet.
-Volume adjustment is easy.
-Pairing with a bluetooth device is easy (haven't tried it with a bluetooth GPS yet though)
-Battery life is very good too.

CONS:
-I absolutely HATE the fact that you can't see what FM station you are on. Reason? I use my SIRIUS sat radio on my bike and the only way to listen to it is with the FM transmitter. So i set the SIRIUS to a radio station, then spend the next 5 minutes scanning thru the FM channels to try and find the station my sat radio is currently on. Once its found, its great, but if your connected to a BUDDY or a cell phone and either tries to call u, it jumps from radio to your call. When your finished with either, it throws you back to the FM and sometimes NOT back to the station you were on before the call, so your caught searching for the station AGAIN!! IT DOES have preset stations, and mine are set, so this does help out with the searching process
-I'm still trying to figure out HOW to switch the headset back from VOX to Push-to-Talk. When riding with a passenger, and say, I START SINGING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS (yes, i do this ALOT), the VOX will initiate and call my passenger. Likewise, if she starts singing (which i tell her not to

) it will do the same thing.
-Pairing with a buddy for Bike-to-Bike or Bike-to-Rider is a bit tricky. You just have to fiddle with it a while til you get it.

All in all, I enjoy the SCALA just fine. I only have one LID, so i'm contantly taking it on and off when switching from the Busa on the street to the R1 on the track. But it is very easy, takes me only a few min to install and route the earphones thru the helmet to hide the wires.

Not sure how much a Chatterbox is, but SCALA is not that expensive either. Got mine from Josh (Jester)!

I have a chatter box, it is bulky and at speeds above 80 it is hard to hear.I had to send it back twice. 1st was just a wire 2nd the unit quit working dureing a rain storm. the two guys that where with me did not have problems with theirs.I sent it back to chatter box they replaced it for free.they did not say what was wrong with it

I just ordered the Chatterbox FRS-X2.  Mainly because I had gift certificates to spend at New enough and that's what they had.  I ordered the FRS because I also use the little hand held radios when I go hunting or if going on a trip I use them car to car.  So they will cross over to the Chatterbox.  Plus my kid likes to play with the radios too so he wants to talk to me when I ride near the house.  I'll let you know how they work when they get here on the 11th.

if you can not hear your chatterbox, you may need to move your speakers... the thing will blow your helmet off on full volume at most any speed IME...

Music quality? I have not heard a set of helmet speakers yet that are anything even close to "good" (suppose the audiophile in me is too picky)

Chatterbox W/Bluetooth is $300

well like i said. I have all three choices at the house right now. I like them all, and hate them all at the same time. I like the function of the Q2, but hate the range. I like the sound of the chatter box but hate no FM radio and the size.

If anyone is looking for a system, hit me up. Ill treat you right. I just dont carry the autocomm unit. YET.

Hi Josh. You have my attention!

I was reading about the Chatterbox X1 on the Chatterbox website - it leaves as many questions for me as it has answers:

* They show a separate accessory - iCombiâ„¢ Bluetooth® Dongle adapter ... will I have to purchase this (AND find a place to mount it) to listen to my MP3 player that is not bluetooth?

* There is also a Chatterbox Universal Cell Phone Call Cord 2.5mm jack listed ... will I have to purchase this to use my cell phone - which is bluetooth compatible?

* What do you personally think about the sound quality and the volume from the speakers?

* Can you prioritize the separate inputs or do you have to toggle something to answer a call/turn off music, end call/turn back on music, etc.

* How complicated is the initial set up?

* How well is the bike to bike frequency going to carry here in the Hill County - Austin and farther south?

Sorry for so many questions, but Michael and I are seriously wanting to get something set up. The Scala looked very inviting until we realized it was only FM radio ... Michael says he has to have the MP3 player.

Any guidance and additonal information will be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind we are not extremely electronic literate.

Can you prioritize the separate inputs or do you have to toggle something to answer a call/turn off music, end call/turn back on music, etc.[/quote]The Chatterbox has an automatic overide for audio Music is cut off by any incoming signal (again sound quality of music on all the speakers I have tried stinks)..

The whole thing sort of rides on "how many" you want to be able to talk too.. any group over 3 and the Scala is done and only 2 if you are using one of the bluetooth channels for phone or GPS.... (pairing limitations)

The chatterbox is much cheaper than the AutoComm unit but you get what you pay for.. However.. for occasional group rides and phone/GPS/Audio access the BT Chatterbox works just fine for me.. ( you can mount this to the bike btw, never had issues with helmet mount all the same)

Busa159 rides with the Scala but is going to run one of my Chatterbox units at Fall Bash.. (He could only talk with Doug at Eureka springs due to the Scala limitation with maybe 10 of us on Chatterboxes)

Thank you for the information!

The main purpose of this will be for MPH200 and myself to communicate while we are out riding. If it works that others in the group have one, all the better. Currently, no one we ride with has any type of system.

I am really interested to hear what kind of reception we will be able to expect in areas like Leakey (aka the Three Sisters) where there are a lot of "hills".

I love my chatterbox. We had a blast with them at the spring bash. It was great helping a new rider through the twisties. Kevin was a different rider at the end of the skyway. Mine is paired with my bluetooth phone, another great option. The music quality is fine with my mp3 player. My system is mounted on my stem mount so I can change channels and such at any time. It is also hardwired to the bike so recharging the unit doesnt need to be done. If your bluetooth phone has an mp3 player, you can control the music with the chatterbox while the phone is in your pocket. I also like the voice dial option while im riding. I just hit a small button on the side of my phone while its in my pocket and the rest is voice activated. Set up is exremely easy, just about plug and play. I have never used the scala or autocom. Here is a pic of my setup. I love it.

Another, no need for helmet mount. Oh by the way, I have been waiting for the X1 to come out for 2 years. It was supposed to come out spring of 07, they are having problems with it so I was tired of waiting.

I tried Chatterbox and I don`t like it. I have Scala Team for 2 seasons now and absolutely love it. Sound quality is outstanding.
It has no music option but it has 2 speakers. Best $179 I ever spent.
