I have the Scala and I can tell you that Busa159 and I talked all day long with our Scala's.... You get about 1500 feet away and you begin to get static, the cool thing is that when you get back in range they pair right back up...... They are duplex which means that both of you can talk and listen at the same time....
The FM radio does leave a little to be desired but if you have a few extra bucks and you can get the Scala and a Garmin 550Nuvi then you are good as gold..... You get GPS, if your phone has bluetooth you can syc it with your GPS along with your scala and talk on your phone while riding, you can get real time direction from your GPS, also there is a media player on the 550Nuvi so you can listen to MP3's or you can switch over and listen to XM Satellite if you have a subscription....
It all works together via bluetooth and takes about 10 minutes to set up......
Now if your riding with just one other person or you have a passenger this is a great system. If you are using a headset to communicate with a group or ride as a contact as front or back of a group then you would definately want to get a set that has a farther reach... I would like to try the new Chatterbox bluetooth to see about the quality but I dont think you can get much better than the audio and qualiy from the scala.... I ran up to over 100mph once while on the phone just to see about the background noise and there isnt any...... Steve and I were talking back and forth at some pretty good speeds and there was never any static or loss of quality.......
Good stuff...
