CHP targets motorcycles and not cars!

It sounds like folks maybe need to slow down a little on this road...

"Last year nearly 70 percent of all deadly motorcycle accidents on L.A. County highways happened along Angeles Crest. Which is why the CHP is clamping down."

A good point made about the inexperienced rider trying to keep up with the more experienced rider.
Always ride your own pace not one set by someone else.

The Crest may be the best motorcycle road out there, over 40 miles of nothing but twisties. It is the nirvana of motorcyling. But with that comes dangers. And everyone here knows how many motorcylists have poor judgement. Poor judgement on the Crest WILL kill you.

Call it Darwin's natural selection. So many of these young guys don't even have a license. These are the guys who run anyway, how's ticketing those of us with good judgement going to save lives? Its not. People die on the crest every year and a bunch will die next year.

I've been riding the Crest for 5 years and I'll definately miss it a lot when I move to Texas...

Troopers to crack down on speeding, DUI

The Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. "â€￾ More than 125 additional state troopers will be on Alabama's roads and highways later this month as part of a crackdown on speeding and drunken driving.
Gov. Bob Riley and Public Safety Director Col. Christopher Murphy said Wednesday the extra troopers would be out the week of Aug. 18-24 as part of the "Take Back Our Highways"￾ traffic safety campaign.
Riley's communications director, Jeff Emerson, said overtime will be funded partly by federal grants. Troopers in Tennessee and Mississippi also will participate.
Riley said troopers also would be looking to crack down on seat belt violations and incidents of aggressive driving.
Murphy credited several similar crackdowns in the last year for reducing the number of traffic fatalities in the state.

With the ACH, you ride it _early_ AM or weekdays. That's a road with a lot of risk in the form of cops and cliffs, as well as a number of yahoos that really should save up for a track day instead. There aren't many roads where I've seen more stupidity on display than ACH - and that goes for both cars and bikes.

There should be a serious penalty for crossing the double yellow up there - particularly on the blind corners. It's a _guarantee_ that every single time I go up there some oncoming d-bag is riding into my lane on blind corners - sometimes passing other riders on the inside. Combine that with the cold fact that there's a sheer cliff on one side of the road and a solid rock wall on the other...sheesh...

I love that road, but I talk myself out of it if I can't get up early enough or if there's a chance of too many "fair-weather riders". When it's in the mid-40's up at Nuke's, everything seems to calm down a bit.

Increased patrols means I'll be on the 33 a lot more than usual
