Chrome delete?

Painting the chrome parts can be done to last, but you will need to key the chrome finish up so it looks matt first. Then you need to plastic primer first, then a primer, then a basecoat, then the clearcoat. I would not try using wrap over the painted chrome parts as you might pull the paint off if the wrap is not right first time.
Using just a wrap over them is the best way to go IF you are not going to keep the bike longer than 2-3 years.
I don't know why suzuki did not colour code or black chrome them parts in the first place, Chrome is so HD :D

Hmmmm
Sounds like a side job for an art guy.
You know anybody??
Hydrodipping is a great small business too.
Probably end up with work from here, word of mouth, a webpage, could easily become part time turned full time.
Big money in vinyl wrapping too.
Alot of bike parts are small and easily shipped too.
Alot of people in this country can't just drive a few miles and get this stuff done either.
They're looking for somebody trustworthy online, like the org.
You can hydrodip with minimal equipment and resourses too, just like rattlecan skill.
Try some parts on that busted zx14.
Use your skills in a new direction.
I think you have lots of options...
I've thought about it in the past. Sounds close to what I did as an illustrator. Lots of hours, not a lot of work. I could see going back to illustrating and doing motorcycle art at the same time. Heck, maybe throw tattooing in along with it and I'd be busy all the time! Seriously though, even if stay in teaching, I have all summer off.... ;)

I always wanted to do anodizing too.....;)

Sounds tough to start off at 56 with no day job and just $16,000 in savings...I'm pretty tough though.

My neighbor is a bodywork guy and he does tinting of taillights and trim. On chrome he uses an adhesion promoter and sprays with automotive clear with a little black pigment added in. Chrome comes out like black chrome and red taillights looks amazing after his treatment. He did the taillights and trim on my Camaro and it looks great. The chrome strip is a perfect candidate but I like the way the chrome looks.

That is a bad @ss build. :super:

Yes exactly, I'm going to wrap the entire bike in clear vinyl. Quality stuff so it'll last. The chrome piece?. We will see.
Vinyl on that chrome piece shouldn't be a problem for someone experienced in vinyl. I can't remember what to use but there is something you can soak the plastic chrome pieces in and it'll take the chrome off without damaging the plastic and then you prep and paint like any other plastic. A guy I met that I was talking to about doing my headlight with angel eye projectors explained it to me when I brought up wanting to black out the reflective piece.

Edit: not 100 percent sure but I believe a good degreaser/cleaner such as "super clean" or "purple power" will take it off but of course try it on something else before the bike pieces

Yeah, try it on some chromed plastic test part but I wouldn't have thought vinyl would harm chromed plastic any more than it does painted plastic. The adhesive on the vinyl isn't very strong, it just sticks because it seals so well and it conforms exactly to the shape of the surface, that's my impression. If you don't stretch it, it probably will let go on it's own eventually. Once an edge comes loose, it starts peeling. Vinyl isn't real easy to apply. You have to cut it and really need to be careful with that. It doesn't cut so easily but you don't want to score too deep either or you scratch your paint.

Do you remember @InfiniteReality 's
gen2?
He dipped the whole bike 5 or 6 different colors. Every one of them turned out really good too.
My bike was plasti-dipped when I got it...I peeled it all off, the paint was like new underneath.

I've had friends who plasti-dipped their vehicle rims for the winter to protect them and that stuff worked really well...even the salt didn't affect it.

Thats why i used it in case i didnt like it or if i wanted to go back as it came in oem color it can be done without damaging the parts

I virtually tunned those 2, but I think the best exit for the chrome is wrap.

Actually, that's a great direction to go with that heat shield. Thanks for the cool ideas. that really completes the body lines. Too late though, the black is gone.:p

Can't wrap that heat shield though, it's going to have to be powder coated, or painted.
