clutch replacement.

i understand how to install the clutch clearly its not hard. But there are a few things concerning me. one, when you take off the pressure plate there are supposed to be slots for the bolts like in the pic above, however i only have two (yes i have 6 bolts and springs, but not the thing that the bolts thread into. AND, my old clutch kit had 3 of the thicker drive plates (metal ones) and the kit i got today only has 1. Is it ok if i go on and install the one thick drive plate since it is all i have?

i was taling about the 6 clutch bolts sleeves. all is good they came out with my screws so im not missing any. I have 9 drive plates as i should but i am supposed to have 2 thicker ones, however i only have 1 thicker one, does this matter? Will i be ok to install with just one thicker drive plate?

Those 6 clutch bolt sleeves as you call them need to be screwed into the hub with Loc-Tite. (As in my pic)
I used Red on mine. They should not have to come out after you put them in.
The clutch bolts that screw into them need Loc-Tite blue (removeable) to hold them in.

All you need to know is you start with a fiber and end with a fiber. I use the Drag Packs from Cycle Concepts. Soak'em in oil for a minute and put them in. Just take a minute and pay attention to the way the steels go in. One side is smooth and one side is sharp on the end. The smooth side will face the engine, sharp edge faces away from bike. Those 2 metal spacer rings that are in behind the plates, I take those out too. Use some stiff clutch springs and let that beast do what it was built to do. Call Cycle Concepts 1-803-285-8093:thumbsup:

hmm, thanks a,lot big foot. so even though the manual says i should have two thicker(.3mm thicker than the rest) steeles in there i will be fine with just one? I could of sworn that when i took my old clutch out the smooth rounded off side was facing me???

Stack height is what counts. Get rid of spacer rings and add an extra steel. Go to Harbor Freight and get a digital micrometer to measure the height of fibers/steels stacked together. Stack height should be like 1.97-2.01 and you're good to go. Doesnt matter how many fibers or steels. I usually just add another steel in rear and then start with 1st fiber/steel/fiber/steel and keep going like usual. The bike doesnt know how many fibers or steels you put in it.

hm. i kinda get what your saying. but what spacers and rings? i have a small micrometer at home and when i measure the thickness of my OLD steeles they are thinner than my NEW ones. plus in my old clutch there were three thicker steeles instead of two. stack is how high from the ground the fibres and steeles are stacked together right? just need to know if I can run the setup i have now bought (1 thicker steele intead of 2)

there are supposed to be 9 peices of steel, 7 are 2mm and 2 are 2.3mm. I have 8 2mm's and one 2.3mm. But like i said the old steeles i just took out are thinner than my new ones. btw, can someone clarify which side of the fibre is the smooth rounded off side supposed to face..? thank again.

proverbs 13:20 great verse, by the way:)

ahh man, the two washers at the back, one is flat and the other one takes the form of a cone shape almost, which order do they go in

are the last friction plate tabs supposed to be offset from the rest? So it doesnt line up with the rest?

The last one installed should be offset. Some say it dont matter, but the book says to offset it. It fits into the short tabs of the housing

perfect! one more thing, when i took out my old clutch there were 3 fat steele plates, i got the set with only 2, because the manual even says two flat plates should be installed. i know someone else on this forum who also had 3 factory plates in his old clutch...why is this..

manual steeles are supposed to go: a a a b b a a a a
Steeles i took out went: a a a b b b a a a

(:dunno:)

The good book says there should be 9 plain plates and 10 friction discs.
