I have to replace the clutch in my 08 and was curious if I should also replace trhe pressure plate. It doesnt look bad just a few "heat checks" on it. It is the original clutch and only 4000 miles and naerly 100 runs down the 1/4 mile

For the pressure plate, you need to lay that face down on a flat surface. See if you can slip the smallest size feeler gauge between pressure plate and flat surface. If something slides in there, she is warped and should be changed out.

You kind of swap out all the steels and frictions as a set, if you are going to beat the tree. You might hear others comment you could get away with measuring the steels and reusing them. That is where you separate the men from the boys. Say it's like running clean water mixed with gray water and now have a drink, clear your throat.

As long as the steels slide off the hub freely, and that they are flat, they can be re-used. You must remove the glaze off them before putting them back in. Simply remove the blue / black by bead blasting them, or sanding them on 120 grit on a flat surface. I typically do this to the plates every 100 passes or so, or whenever the 60 ft times start to fall off. I strongly disagree that clutches need to be swapped out as a set. Thats a waste of money, but if you must, please send me your old ones:laugh:. You may also find that many of the fibers are also within thickness specification after 4000 miles. You can clean them off in paint thinner, measure them up and replace only the ones you need. Always make sure you soak your fibers in oil for a least a day before install.
