Crazy old bike prices.....

We all know the struggles of the economy in recent years, with ever rising costs and intrest rates, which makes things even worse for any product with previous and current struggling sales...like motorcycles in general.
To me, it doesn't really matter if I can afford a $20k or $30k bike...or even one at $110k, as other than some low volume production hype, you'll never convince me any of them are worth it.
I could pay around $21k-$22k otd on a new Gen3...or buy one with a few mods, a thousand miles or so...and pay $14k for it.
$8k will cover wheels, brakes, suspension, exhaust and dyno tune...and give you the bike that the factory couldn"t.
Is that tempting?
Yes...but with a Goldwing and two Gsxr1k's to maintain and ride, another inline 4 cylinder isn't that appealing, I need an old TL1kR V-Twin, something different.
And, there is also a big group of potential riders that have been priced out of new bikes, especially with insurance costs.
Used bike prices have been going back down for a while now too, and there are deals to be had...which sadly seems to just be from lack of demand or intrest.
With speed wars over and big bike sales slowing for newer smaller bikes, it really looks like we were even more fortunate than we realized, riding for the last few decades.
Who knows what the future will bring.
And once again another big thanks to @captain for keeping us all here...I think he'll ride the sinking ship down with the rest of us, lol

Knowing how you like to fiddle.

Look up Kirby Profitt. He's an ME doing a variable vane turbo on a Wing. He's not the 1st to do a turbo, but he is the 1st to do a variable selectable boost turbo. He's done his 1st shakedown run at 6 lbs. I personally don't care for where his put the turbo. But placement can be discretionary. The concept is awesome. He's using an Audi turbo. Not sure how to dial in boost up or down, as I am just trying to keep up with where he's at.

I have discussed how the heck he's gonna get around the ECM as you can't tune these things.

He says at 6 lbs it's already pulling like a jet. No changes to ECM required yet.

Knowing Kirby he will figure it out!

He's already built and installed a super tall 6th gear into the standard transmission footprint. Had to eliminate reverse to make that happen. I think he said 85 MPH is like 1800 RPM.

So that will be 20K you can sink into your Wing, one winter.

Can you imagine setting your cruise at 145ish and fiddling with your CD selections while clicking through Wyoming in a day?

Have you thought of an RC51 verses a TLR?

From all I've read the RC is a better bike?

I do like the ducktail of the TLR though.....

Yes, and there is an black North American market RC51 too, which I think is the best looking(last year Euro TLR was black, but we never got it)
I never rode one, but sat on a few.
It's seat was the worst thing ever until Honda made the CRF450 dualsport in 2018...which it's seat rivalled in all-time awfulness, lol
But, the RC51's are usually alot more expensive than the TL's, and even harder to find.
I don't need another bike now anyway.
I'm.about to buy my stepson a small dualsport for his 15th birthday next month, which is just another to maintain, but, fortunately he will be learning and doing doing it all himself.
The long term goal is to have him working on all of them.
If I'm fortunate to live and ride for years to come, it will be good to have a kid who can mount and balance my tires, and keep my bikes up
lmao

I believe I told you the story of the yellow TLR which the local then Suzuki (now Honda, BRP) dealership's owner rode........

He begrudgingly sold it and had instant seller's remorse......it was for good reason because the new owner had it a week and dropped it writing it off....

I remember seeing it sitting there broken, covered in mud and grass, and feeling sad to see it like that......the former owner actually cried when he saw it......the bike had 8,000 kms on it....and was mint before hand with Akrapovic pipes....it sounded awesome....

Here's an RC51 they are "giving" away....

The last RC51 I saw on the street was probably 12 yrs ago when I was sitting at a light on my GSXR and a young fellow wearing a muscle shirt (minus muscles) and flip flops came up beside me and said I must be hot wearing my riding gear.....I said I'd rather be hot than needing a skin graph....at that the light turned green and he ripped off like a shot.....I idled away hoping to put some distance between us...
