well i know i'm going to get flamed but here it goes.
I DON'T LIKE RIDING THE DRAGON'S TAIL. i did it a few
years ago on my electraglide with sparks flying off my floorboards and this year on my busa at the bash. i'm just not skilled enough to ride those type of roads where your trying to catch your tailight. i had a "death grip" on my grips on both occasions and was glad when i finally got through with it. just my thoughts. am i the only one?

Well I of all people will certainly not flame you brother! The gap can be quite overwhelming when you first ride it on a new bike. The scenary, the bikes, the idiots, the turns. I will stress this important fact, you need to learn your bike. I went from a 1800 VTX Retro to a hayabusa. It is a completely different world as soon as I got the "feel" for my busa in the turns, it didn't take long before that death grip went away. Just remember ride as comfortable as you can, its your ride no one elses. There is no fun in laying up in a hospital due to you trying to "impress" another guy, or you get shaken up by someone and you wreck out. I think ya did pretty good going from a electraglide to the busa...I mean a BMW guy did ride w/ ya so you can't be that bad!!

ROOOLLL TIIIDE!

Honestly, there are a LOT of great rides within a couple hours of Deals Gap. I used to love riding in the Caesar's Head/Table rock area of SC. There are TONS of nice rides minutes off the blue ridge parkway as well. Just have all the fun you can FINDING them. =)

Don't see a need for any flaming.. If you don't like it and it's not your thing, no big deal.

I wouldn't worry about it. Ride what you like. It's your bike and happiness, no one else's. F what they think.

As Bobby said, Don't Worry, Be Happy!

Sounds like you are trying to push yourself too hard through there. Try to relax and ride it within your skill level. Not everyone can be like vman

I enjoy riding it on the Busa. I feel like you learn something on each pass through. However, there are several roads in the area (Skyway, Hellbender, TN360 and TN68) that are much more fun on the busa.

If I want to burn up the Dragon I ride this...

it's not just you. I went to AZ a few years ago, and a guy from here showed me some of the best canyon roads I will ever have access to on my cycle and I couldn't ride them. I dropped to like 20 mph and was backing up traffic and pulled over several times to stop clogging people. My riding buddy had to double back to see if I'd wrecked. Frist, I hate height so that didn't help. Second, I don't really trust foriegn pavement. The roads were GREAT! But I didn't really know that.

I'm not a noobie, I've been to many many track days, drag knee there constantly, but have no interest what so ever in riding the dragon. And there is no law against that. Just personal preference. I am glad others get out there and enjoy it!

The Gap is a great ride. Just take it at your pace and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If someone comes up behind you just wave them by.

If you think that your riding on the Dragon was bad, you should have seen my last pass... I think Busa Whipped was stuck behind me the whole way... (Sorry Dennis)

No one can give you crap or flames for riding the dragon to your comfort; no one knows your ability and comfort than you. I enjoy the dragon and as Don said earlier, I learn something new everytime I make a pass... but as far as bringin a sidecar - bring whatever you are comfortable with - as long as you show up!

I don't think it was me. I usually don't stay stuck behind anyone for too long. (ask GSXcite

It took me 3 years of reading about it to finally run the Dragon, and ONLY after my husband and our riding buddies sort of took me through the back way...I was halfway through the run when I realized I was riding the Dragon (insert all blonde jokes now)...
wink.gif

I had EVERYTHING in my favor though; not hardly any traffic, no trucks or squids...it was so much fun, I never left second gear, never applied the brakes and I wasn't breaking any records, just clean riding and building confidence...

All that said, I'm still nervous when I think about riding the twisties...it's just not my normal riding style...no flaming from anyone here...I do think it's worth a trip there to see the chaos, and if you feel up to a run, take your time and do it for you, not to impress others

Riding the Dragon is fun, and watching the custom or modified bikes rip through there is pretty exciting too. Last weekend I eased through because of the saturation by THP. I really enjoyed it better than when I pushed myself this spring. I failed to maintain my lane in the same curve twice this past spring, but didn't have that issue this time.

Ride at your own pace.
