deal's gap

Shortcut, I have never been there, but we are going to make the spring bash. This sport is about enjoyment, and when you ride your ride, it will be much more fun than feeling pushed. That could lead to a rider trying to keep pace or riding beyond your skills. Either one is bad news for you. I hope to meet you in April, and just as everyone else has said, Ride your own ride, have fun, take pics, and be safe.

I had a blast on the dragon this week. I did learn one very important thing, DO NOT ride the dragon at night without HID's, although the minimal traffic was nice, the limited visibility made it very difficult to navigate. I do think It's a very tough road and should be taken very slowly until you learn each turn. I had a great time following Raybusa through it my first time. He certainly knows each turn before it comes up. Just ride your ride and the road is a lot of fun

Hey George, don't sweat it Bro.

Just have fun and get those -3 dog bones off your scoot, that will really help!

The Dragon is not a racetrack, contrary to many a rider's belief. Just set your own pace and flow.

See you in the Spring.

(VaBusa @ Oct. 02 2007,13:32) It took me 3 years of reading about it to finally run the Dragon, and ONLY after my husband and our riding buddies sort of took me through the back way...I was halfway through the run when I realized I was riding the Dragon (insert all blonde jokes now)...
wink.gif

I had EVERYTHING in my favor though; not hardly any traffic, no trucks or squids...it was so much fun, I never left second gear, never applied the brakes and I wasn't breaking any records, just clean riding and building confidence...

All that said, I'm still nervous when I think about riding the twisties...it's just not my normal riding style...no flaming from anyone here...I do think it's worth a trip there to see the chaos, and if you feel up to a run, take your time and do it for you, not to impress others

First Blonde: Which is closer Florida or the Moon?
Second Blonde: Duh, can you see Florida?!?!

shortcut, although I ride the dragon everytime we go to the gap, I take it pretty easy. Apart from the LEO'S, I have seen too many cages, trucks and other riders in my lane when coming out of a corner. It's fun to make a few passes on the dragon, but it is far from my favorite road. I love the skyway, thunder road, out by Fontana Dam and many others. At the spring bash next year, I don't care if I even ride the Dragon. I intend on seeking other roads I have not been on before. If you would like to go for a nice paced ride in the spring, you are welcome to join the midwest crew.

Last time we were up there I rode 28 all morning, by myself save for some daredevil chipmunks - extended practice session.

Living in 'Bama and learning to actually turn a Busa is a chore, learning to turn one up there (where failure to do so is rather unforgiving) is tougher and dont even get me started about turning one on a track while moving at 90mph.

Just take little bites and enjoy yourself!

I have always found the Dragon to be a little bit stressful myself!

the dragon is a bit overwhelming at first. after a few passes i get much more comfortable with each pass. like Hal said, there are a ton of great roads in the area and you could go all week without riding the dragon and still have the time of your life.

Hal, count me in for some of your other passes. especially thunder road as i have yet to ride that!! it was hard to get in contact with people at the phillips when staying at the microtel unless ur an early bird which im not. due to that, i missed out on some good riding from what i hear.

we are at the phillips in the spring so please allow me to join ya fellas for a few of the rides.

Like everyone else has said, ride your own ride. I plan on riding the dragon one day, just for the experience and to say that I did it. I tend to be a very timid rider. I have to ride a road several times before I start to put some lean in the curves. At the fall MnG in Austin, I road mainly at the back of the pack since I was slower then everybody else. The point is to enjoy the ride, if that means you ride slower and actuality check out the scenery, I say good for you.

I'm usually up early, run the dragon one or twice before breakfast at CROT. After breakfast I run the outer roads and leave the dragon to the crowds.

Well Said Bro

And I feel the same way. Ride your own ride hell I rode with the San Antonio guys and I felt like a chump but I was to busy checking out some of the Texas Hill Country that I had never seen before and when I go to the Dragon in the Spring I will be doing the same thing taking my time and looking at the great stuff the good Lord made. so if that means I will be in the back well guess I will be in the back.

Looking forward to actually getting to ride with you. Even if we have to go all the way to Tennessee to actually do it

I wasn't even there. But if I was it would be worth the trip.

My first impressions, that first time when I didn't even try to run the Dragon, was "look at all of the bikes, just coming and going..." It was a continuous stream of every kind of bike and rider...I could sit there all day and just watch 'em run in and out...
