Jeremy,Carrie and Michelle,
respectfully, how can you seriously believe that everyone has the same choices? I find it hard to digest that two intelligent people honestly think that luck has nothing to do with the situation they are now in. Every time I see a person in a f@#ked up place in their life, I think "There but for the grace of God go I..." Seriously, how many people do you think are one paycheck away from homelessness? Or one bad car wreck away from bankruptcy? How do you guys think your children would fare if you were put in either of these scenarios?
I believe that every person, no matter what their background or environment can do their BEST to be a better person...hell, I could be one paycheck from bankruptcy...I grew up with a Dad that went through layoff after layoff; we were one of those families that from time to time leaned on the state and got gov't support. Don't attack me for believing that EVERYONE has the chance to make the choice to NOT take another's life...
I don't care if you're destitute...killing someone is never a product of society or your environment. It's a fuggin' choice that someone makes. And let's not lose focus of why this entire talk began. We had a gang member, hell, the fuggin' founder of the Crips...he thought it was "cool" to be a gangster and take the lives of those that he just didn't like. Like so many deviants in our society, they take from others what they want, they don't care if they kill for a car or a nice coat, they don't care if the $40 bucks they stole from the local convenience store also took the life of some poor guy working night shift to support his family. They don't care if some 5 year old gets caught in the crossfire of a drive by...
KILLING SOMEONE IS A CHOICE...NO EXCUSE, EVERYONE KNOWS IT'S WRONG.
Those that see nothing wrong with killing another don't deserve to be a part of our society. And you can go down the road of "well, the state puts 'em to death, so their just as guilty as well" but I'm not buying it...it's the law...I'm all for capital punishment for those that don't like the rules of society, and I honestly think they should do it a lot sooner than they are now...
