dropped my gen3 busa and my ego is hurt and feeling embarrassed

Don't feel too bad either
A few weeks ago I managed to do $2800 worth of damage...and the bike did Not even go down, lmao(deer)...so be greatful for a broken footpeg...it can Always be worse.

Since we're showing off non-busa wrecks, here's mine. Totaled and I didn't get a dime. Liability but for a 14 year old bike, I have no regrets. I could have purchased a brand new bike with what I saved by going with liability. If I had full coverage ...what is the market value of a 2008 ZX-14 wth 50 k miles?? I'd have paid much more for the insurance than the bike is worth in the mint condition it was...but that's how it's supposed to go. Insurance companies count on it. It's like going to the casino, the house always wins.

I hit a deer too. I know you guys will say you never thought a ZX-14 could get uglier but it can.

I park everything in gear ever since.
...and still triple check it before you leave it on its own.

Mostly I'm just glad to be alive with some scars. Glad you survived too @kabali .

BTW, there's those Vortex rearsets in the pic of my bike. Black is probably the way to go. The Vortex gold anodizing doesn't look like a nice gold in my opinion. That's the problem with aftermarket parts, matching colors. Black works every time.

LOL You see the frame sliders didn't help much on this bike. The one on the RH side snapped right off. No frame damage. IMHO those sliders are good for a garage tip over, not a high speed crash. My bike flipped so the sliders did about zip.

....a sad sight.....that used to be a pretty bike...

I'm glad you're here to tell us about it, and it's ok. It's all about learning though. Try to revisit the incident in your mind and remember the details so you can avoid it happening in the future. I wonder what gear you were in though, for it to stall and if it stalled due to lack of power, or maybe the Hill Assist came on prematurely for some reason.

I dropped the Zed14 the other day after a dyno check .... lmao , at standstill luckily , and scored a few scuffs on the exhaust exit side of bike . The top of middle fairing got two long edge scrapes , the crash knob got rashed and so did the carbon lower fairing and mirror . A couple of mates from Northern Territory rolled up to view the bikes , and didn't even notice the bits I haven't fixed yet , till I showed them , so got out of it lucky .
So , I scored some new A tech carbon lowers , although I think I can buff out the rash on the original carbon piece . The carbon mirror was fairly badly scratched up , but I managed to buff that out to as new . The fairing middle section has the 2 edge rash / scratches , so decided I will go ahead and buy new / trade $ oem pieces for color change to match that new tank I got sitting around . Also ordered up some new carbon from Carbon Composites in Canada , which is sitting waiting at airport , ready (express ) to ship to AU . Hope to have the oem pieces to arrive sometime this month , so I can get the bikes newish look all setup .

DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!

See @kabali , everyone drops their bike. At least you were riding it. and you survived relatively unscathed.

I know @Mythos my good buddy , I got off light luckily , and will be back better than ever .
Now , hows the winter plans coming along with your ZX14 ? I realize you have been slowed up even more since the accident . I trust now , your full recovery is imminent , so you may have some plan for the Busa to be ready for next ride season , then maybe onto the ZX14 restoration ?

I'm afraid I don't feel the freedom to go and do the things that make me happy after work. You would think being and art teacher would be a a fairly casual job but I feel pressure to be as prepared and organized as I possibly can and it's wearing in me. I don't think it's normal. I don't see other teachers leaving at 5:00 or later but that's about as early as I normally get out of there. I can't teach and do the other things that have to get done at the same time. I work with the students and I think that's the way to do it for art. You don't just let them go on their own because most of them want help and they could use it too.

So the ZX sits on the stand in the storage unit much the same as when I pushed it in there. The busa sits waiting for the new chain and sprockets and raising links. I'd love to get those BST wheels for my busa but not until I finish off the other jobs. When the weekend comes around, I really just feel like laying around. I think I'm a bit depressed and ready for getting out of this place. I'd like to have a life where I feel I can pursue my passions outside of work again but everything is so damned serious now. We have a week off for deer hunting and our Thanksgiving holiday soon but I will be over with my parents finishing painting the bathroom at their house. My dad just had successful cancer removal from the outside of his stomach so I want to be with them but the other things that are important to me will have to wait. The thought of getting rid of the bikes hasn't crossed my mind though. No way. Thinking about a new 14R though....LOL that would be all the money I saved in the last three years...which I will need if I quit working here to job hunt over the summer. Thanks for asking about me bro and I don't mean to hijack the thread with my personal business but I really needed to get that of my chest a little.

Do little projects. After my freeway go down, the motor took a biy of te as I was injured, and low on cash. Foind little bike jobs. Even on the busiest weekends, if I do a little bit of work on one bike or the other, I feel like my weekend was very relaxing.

Life has a way of getting us into a rut if we aren't careful.

Having someone (in person) to motivate you would be a big help as well, I have found this to be an effective method. If I had a subordinate who was going through issues, I'd always ask if this soldier had some sort of close support base (girl/boyfriend, husband/wife, close friend) of which to draw power from. And we generally always worked in 2 person teams in our work place so we had someone to watch our 6.

I, myself was going through PTSD and never noticed it myself-my wife did and pushed me hard to go get into counselling and that saved my life. When you look at the bottom of a cliff it looks daunting, once you start climbing, it gets less so....the trick is to start climbing.

You sound as if you have both feet planted and know what you want and how to get it-that is a good sign.

I agree with you on the psychiatric counseling, Bumblebee. The first phone call to the councilor I used years back made me feel so much better right away and the first visit was like a miracle. He told me that there has been research conducted which indicates that just reaching out for help makes a patient's/client's health start to improve right away. Many times I've made an appointment with a doctor only to have met that person feeling a lot better. Some say a psychiatrist is only effective after a long period of time but I think think a lot can happen very rapidly and they're worth their weight in gold.

Hey @Mythos, I think our schools underestimate the importance of art instruction. In most schools, it's playtime and if a kid has a knack for it they can excel beyond the class. But the problem I see with young people in my profession is that they are lost when dealing with subjective challenges or innovation. Math is problem-solving in the objective realm and art is problem-solving in the subjective realm. The best problem solvers are comfortable in both realms, and art is how you teach people to navigate the subjective.

So to me, the purpose of art should be to help students understand subjectivity. Sure a certain number of students will gravitate to art as a passion, but for the people who want to be engineers, it's just as important.

I have found over the years, young(er) people are not thinking outside the box due to their constant connectivity to electronic means...their problem solving skills have waned to the point of being ineffective.

I saw this more and more before in soldiers before I retired, we can only teach them so much, instinct has to be there in the first place. I noted most of the young(er) soldiers really struggled with problems that came second nature to us older soldiers and once we pointed them in the direction of the solution they gravitated towards it quickly....the problem was they were unable to find the solution without guidance....we found this became a real problem in battlefield conditions.

In my opinion as the reliance on technology becomes more and more prevalent, people will be really hard pressed to problem solve on their own unlike people before the indent of advanced technology. For instance. Even after being taught I found the younger soldiers were not be familiar with old fashioned maps and compasses and relied totally on GPS-a technology easily and often disrupted.

It is impressive to think of what was designed and developed without the advantage of advanced technologies....

I figure teaching arts might be able to tap into the basic imagination of people and might help a bit of cognizant thinking. I'm surprised at how many people in my family have artistic abilities.

But I digress as this has little to do with dropping a gen 3 bike....:lol:
