I can't imagine these not being a constant money pit. The reason for this post is that I located a 1993 900SS not to far from me. Price is affordable, bike is in good condition with low miles and clean title.

I always enjoy the feedback here and do take it seriously so I thank you in advance.

Ducati=money pit?

Not sure about that bike.......but I'm a Duc Fan.

This may make it into my garage in the next couple yrs:

As a second bike -- that new 08 Duc 848 looks very cool--- screaming V-2 blasting pass those 17,000 rpm inline fours...I believe the build quality has come a long way on Ducati's

John, yes the older Duc's are money pits, speaking from the maintenance perspective. New Duc's have incorporated technology to reduce the required maintenance intervals as well as parts required.

The new 848, Supermotard and 1098 are very nice, and if lotto luck struck, I'd get me one of each

NO!
...but that B-King is starting get my attention.

If I see a Black one in person, that mightv just put me over the edge.

I love Duc's!

But it seems to me they were designed for a person of about 160lbs. to 170lbs. in mind. And that kinda leaves me out.

(and then depression set in) The bikes look cool though....

A new one is not in the cards. If it was it would be an Augusta and nothing else. Just found one for $2500 cash. Book is 5 grand. A lot of work has been done but I have done some research today on the 900.

The bike is rideable. Oh, what the heck. Here is the link. We are talking used not new here guys.

At $2,500, I'd steer well clear of it. I used to work on Ducatis in the mid 90's (916 anyone?). If it's going to be sold at that price, it's probably due for a major service ($$), or there are some unmentioned problems.

In general, Ducati is a fantastic bike. There were some cost-cutting issues when Cagiva owned them, but that's water under the bridge. The only problem is that they fall under the "exotic" category, and thus parts and service are pretty pricey.

Thanks for the post. Lot of variables in the ad huh?

Could just be a really good deal too...I bought an all original 86 GSXR 750 two years ago for 700.00. All it needed was new gas and plugs.... Put 6000mi on it that summer trouble free. Some "cheap" bikes are just truely good deals...

Yes, it could be just that. A good find however if such you would think it would be sold by now.

I read a little today on the 900. Seems like lots of fuel issues. Fuel pumps, rust easily formed in tank and constant carb sync.

Thanks for the reply.

I like the looks but I've always had a notion that Italian products are solely designed for high performance and as such, are not durable, not easy to work on and costly to repair, like the Ferrari and Lamborghini for example.

Just a hunch, havem't researched it. So at this time...although not knowledgeable about them much, I wouldn't get one.

Yeah, when I get to be on good terms with some guy named Dario or Salvador or the like who seems to know a LOT about bikes and works on them for a living, I'll pull the trigger on one. Until then though? they maintenance on them is just brutal.

I've had a Duc. IT was a 1997 900SS. I don't plan to have another Ducati after that thing.
