Dyno HP

I have a general question about Dyno numbers.

I had 2 bikes dynoed. One of the graphs says CF:STD Smoothing and the other says CF: SAE Smoothing

Will one of them show more HP than the other? What is the reason for each.

Thanks in advance for the feed back.

Yep, generally the industry "standard" if you will, is SAE. When a shop is hurting to boast numbers produced they can use STD, as well as other "dyno tricks" like loading the tire forward of the crown of the roller etc...

and as far as the smoothing that's just so the graph is more legable. It doesn't effect the actual numbers.

I just ran my bike on the Dyno and it was CF SAE Smoothing 5 and it went 162.89...
I have see much bigger numbers on here guys ... What up ?
My bike is stock with slip ons  4300 miles on my 08... My 06 did 154hp

Actually smoothing does change the power #'s.

Also, SAE is the industry standard so you can compare dyno graphs from one dyno to another. STD can show how much power the bike made that day in those conditions.

It makes it hard to guage real progress for mods if there is no "TRUE" calibration for dynos

I dont know what to make of the 162 number. "They" say that rear wheel should be 15% lower than motor specs. If so that would put crank power at 187.32 not 194

You do realize that every single engine is different and will make different power #'s no matter what? You can take 2 of the same bikes and put them on the same dyno back to back and they will make different power.

Yes I do realize that but you are usually talking about a 2% difference in a mass produced close tolerance engine like the Busa has not 10% it has to be the Dyno's not the bikes that are that far off!

It all has to do with the dyno. I would post up the weather info and see if JohnnyCheese can give you a more accurate reading if you are worried about it. Otherwise, I would take it to the track and see if the times/MPH is in line. If it feels down on power then get it checked out under warranty but if it runs great, take it to another dyno if you want.

Dyno's are a tuning/diagnostic tool and that's it,not the last word on how much actual hp your making as there are millions of varibles..

I've seen bikes off by a lot before. It's no news to me. It also depends on how well its running as well.

HP/TQ readings don't really matter all that much, esepecually when you're splitting wigs out on the race track.

Good point ... It runs better than I can take advantage of and it sounds really good with that new exhaust .. So it is all good .. Damn dyno anyway :-)
