Picked up my red/gray Busa yesterday. Last bike was a 93 ZX11. The Busa is lightyears ahead of the old Kawi and I'm not talking speed either. The Busa is refined, much better fit and finish, smoother and generally just a better package-which was what I figured, and is the primary reason I went with the Suzuki instead of the ZX12 anyway.
With regard to quickness and speed, I'm still following the manual, which I think is most important for longevity, but even so, the Busa has much more power down low. That was evident the first minute I was on the road.
Another reason why I chose Suzuki over a ZX12 is those bogus fin things Kawasaki put on the 12's front fork and side body panels. From my perspective they are mostly a marketing ploy and about as effective as a rear wing on a Honda Prelude or Oldsmobile Alero, and honest as the fake air intakes on the sides of a Yamaha V-Max.
My guess is that the ZX design is a trade-off of some aerodynamic ingredients with the need to look like what they think will sell. In truth, the Busa is also trade-off in the same sense, but more honest about it, and truer to aerodynamic design. That may be in-part why it's faster even if it does make a couple ponies fewer.
Anyway, all that silliness becomes meaningless the instant I'm on the bike, which I'm just about to do.
