Fl helmet law under review

I used to be so "one way" with this topic, thinking it's in everyones best interest to put these laws in place.  I'm thankful we have the helmet law here in VA because the hubby wouldn't wear any helmet at all, BUT in that same breath I must note that the hubby and our "Harley friends" take it upon themselves to look like they're wearing the proper gear by purchasing skid lids...they're illegal, everyone knows it, but it's not enforced by cops, at least I haven't seen any enforcement where I live...

Hell, some of the Busa guys on here can attest to the fact that when my hubby had his incident on the Road King last fall, the State Trooper picked the skid lid up and told him "you're gonna kill yourself wearing this crap" but didn't write him up...

So, to avoid the gov't sticking their nose in EVERY stinkin' aspect of our lives, I'd vote to allow individuals to choose...I hate that system, I don't agree with not wearing a helmet just like I couldn't imagine not strapping on the seat belt, but I see an abuse of the laws on the books now, so do the laws really do their job anyway?

In the interest of my children, I would like the laws...but that's the "Mom" side of me...in the interest of allowing adults choose their fate, I'd have to say let 'em decide whether or not to wear the helmets...it's a tough call no matter how you look at it...

There is no difference at all . I wear a seat belt in the cage , hell I even have a 5 pt. harness installed .....but both lid and belt use should be left up to the individual . Government has us by the collar in so many aspects , when do we say it's enough ?

Got the harnesses as well,and enough is when they try to take my guns...

There are way to many stupid laws, I think lawmakers really do think they're helping...but the wind up making it worse.

The gov. should not be involved in seat belt or helmet laws.  The taxpayers should not be liable for unpaid medical bills of uninsured idoits.

Percentages are always bullsh@t!  Any statistic is created for the purpose of showing a point of view and never reflect all the factors in the real world.

I wear my helmet all of the time and seat belt all of the time. Shoot I wear FULL(helmet, jacket & track pants or suit, gloves, boots) gear 9 out of 10 times I ride, but I still think the Gov. should not be controlling its citizens this way.
This just isn't an issue the gov. should be involved in.
Fire, police, military, R&D, space, etc. that's what the gov. is for.

Nice pic n.junkie. And +1 on the guns . But I think U guys and gals are misunderstanding me . I said I wear the lid 98% ....probably more like 99.5% . I've had 2 cages and 1 HUGE dog hit me , in 19 years on bikes . So ....I know the importance of the lid . But I still like the choice available , U know what I mean ?

I agree but do we turn away injured motorcyclists at the emergency room when they don't have medical insurance? Perhaps we should ...

Regarding business and government, that's big government's way of keeping things "fair and competitive". Except of course when it comes to allowing imported goods and services (ie. aliens) to be dumped on our shores. Nothing like a little socialism with a dash of chaos to keep our society divided.

I agree that we should have the choice, I have both a sport bike and cruiser. I wear a full face all the time on the busa and nothing on the vtx. I have a comfort level on the busa with it and the vtx without.

The ONLY downside to this thinking is that there are those that can't decide for themselves, i.e. children. I cringe when I see parents packing kids in a Geo without a single safety seat or seat belt...the laws (obviously the seatbelt laws are what I'm thinking of here) should in the very least force society to adhere to SOME set of standards to ensure more safety for those that can't make the choice on their own, and unfortunately we have far too many parents that don't do "what's right" unless forced to...

But the problem is society wants to keep making more and more laws to protect their children. Like so many laws, the good guys have to watch their back while the bad guys continue to circumvent the laws. If a parent doesn't seat belt a kid without a seat belt law, do you really think they'll seat belt their kid with a law. The type of person who doesn't think ahead, is careless, or doesn't give a sh@t isn't going to seat belt their kid law or no law. So society keeps making more and more laws for the gov to regulate the idoits. Now you have to be very careful about spanking kids, because some states might view it as abuse. Now a parent who simply was trying to disciplne their kid, loses their kid and goes to jail.


Basically;
The more laws that are created and the bigger the gov gets to enfore them, the more freedoms we all lose. Let the idoits kill themselves or we might end up being a socialists state, if we aren't allready.

or best you can hope for is 1,000euro fine......... and the garda.... (COP,S).... enforce it big time.... thay can also pull you over for not wear,n (BOOTS & BIKE JACKET) so to sum it up i think you guy,s have it pretty good. hell 2 own a gun here you must have a licence.. if you have a gun with shells and (NO LICENCE ) you can get up to (12YEARS) in prison for it!!!! at one time not so long ago thay were gona make it law that you had to wear these OVER YOU,R BIKE GEAR....................

+1.. and in my honest opinion.. if that last paragragh wasn't so true there wouldn't be so many fuggin idiots out there to have to be constantly policed! Without the discipline we had from our parents when we was growing up, these kids grow up thinking they can get away with just about anything and have no sense of respect for themselves, personal property, their own children, or anyone else~ So it really doesn't matter if there is a law stating to buckle up or have them children in a safety seat.. in their little minds 'it ain't breaking the law if you don't get caught'~

Basically;
