For those that just quit smoking

whatever it takes just do it. my dad smoked for over 50 years(started when he was 13). he was always very active (old school country guy, he was born in 1934) doin stuff from sun up to sun down, yadda, yadda, yadda. point is he retired at 65. at 66 he got emphysema he is now 73 and lives on an oxygen bottle. it wears him out to walk from his back door to his garden. and he gets sick every year. so do your wife and kids a favor. STOP NOW!!!!!  you can do it bro. hang in there

as a side note dr. said if it werent for somking he would probably live to be at least 90. he is in perfect health except for the lungs. now he will be lucky to see 75

You can do it. You will be  on edge for a few days but it will get better each day. I'm going on two months and I don't even think about having one and I smoked for 45 years over a pack a day. Cold turky works if you REALLY want to quit.
That kind of gives me strangth. Knowing that youve smoked for 45 years and youre still here. I smoked for 16 (less than a pack a day) and im SO worried about cancer..

I seriously dont see how some people smoke 3 packs a day cause i always got a smoke hanging from my bottom lip and cant break 15 or so smokes a day.

It more addicting that cocaine, or that is what they say. I dont know, working on day 3. Still doing ok, just a tad cranky.

Thank you for the support guys. I will be smoke free at the next bash. I can kiss my wife without having to run and brush my teeth, I smell better, food will taste better. I need some sunflower seeds.....

good luck bro

i quit cold turkey in '92...i was up to smoking 2 packs a day and needed to quit to keep my football scholarship in college...that was the prize i kept looking at, try to find yours (family, $, good health, better smelling cloths, etc.)...i know you can do this

i was completely smoke-free for 8 years before starting again but make myself stay on a very limited level (normally smoke 1-3 cigs/day and sometimes go for up to a week without one)...don't try this as the majority of people end up smoking as much or more than before...just quit and don't look back

You guys are amazing. Thanks alot, seriously. Worst part is, I really enjoyed them sometimes, other times, like the day I quit, I hated them. You right Rev, I was pure evil yesterday, wow...........that sucked. I feel better today and I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Mymaster, you hit the nail on the head. If I am going to quit, I cant just prolong the addiction with nicotine replacments. I have tried the patch in the past, and it didnt work. The side affects sucked, and I still wanted a cig.

Hal, I will have the cleanest bike at the bash, well, aside from you and maybe DREW. I have all kinds of time and need something to keep my hands busy, polish the busa!
I hear that about the clean bike. Funny you should say that, but that is one thing I have had to stay away from for awhile. You will find that you will need to change things up a bit if you are like me. I did not smoke in the house as my wife has never smoked, so I would go to the garage, light up and work on the busa or clean it up. I think I can go work on it now without a problem, but the first few weeks would have been real hard. Some things I don't know if I could do however is go to the casino, or go fishing (not that I have to worry about doing that now as it's snowing like crazy) without wanting to smoke.

You can do it man! The short time I have had to get to know you, I have the impression you are alot like me in that when you get it in your mind that your going to do something, weather it be buy a trailer, paint the floor or whatever, it WILL get done. I'm convinced you are READY to quit, and as hard as it is to do, you will kick this bad habits azz!

Your wife can ask you to quit, your mother can ask you to quit, your doctor will recommend that you quit, but untill your ready, it won't happen.

As long as I smoked, I was blown away after a routine checkup with my doctor a week ago when he told me my breathing was back to normal! This after only a little over a month after quiting. No matter how long you have smoked or how much you smoke, I believe you can beat it when your ready!

I dont doubt what the doctor said at all. I understand that after you quit, your lungs will beging healing immeadiatly. I will be a month hacking and spitting this crap out. I cant wait to feel better.

I quit cold turkey a year ago. The first 48 hours were the worst. Then I had to beat the cravings after that. Make sure you have a conversation with your wife about what you are trying to do. It will help your relationship a lot. If you feel a case of the crankies coming on, go out to the garage or something. Stay away from alcohol. It always makes it worse and lowers your ability to resist having one. You can do it! Just go day by day. Heck, sometimes it's second by second, but you can do it.

how hard it is for anyone is how much of an addictive personality you have. SO I HEAR
