Found out yesterday I'm EXTREMELY anemic

It is said that cooking in old school Iron skillets, griddles, and pots helps to maintain a healthy iron intake for anemics. Do you have a any old fashioned cookware?

Everything I cook is in a cast iron skillet Projekt...and my diet doesn't seem to be the issue per the doc. Obviously there's something else going on. I've had 3 doctors mention thalassemia, but my family tree just doesn't support that disease unless someone somewhere slept around  After all the tests, we'll see what new disease I have this year

Good Luck with the procedure! When you mentioned the iron looks like coffee going into your veins I thought, that's what I need! A coffee IV..... I love coffee...... :coffee:

Seriously though, I hope this helps with your headaches and tiredness. Just don't look at the IV and you'll be fine! Anemia isn't an uncommon thing and women are more prone to have it than men. I take it you were never able to donate blood?

Sorry to hear the report, but happy to hear the report. Does that make sense?

I am happy to hear the potential source for some of the symptoms you've been experiencing has been found, and a corrective action is available.

Best wishes for a full recovery!

Take care & hope things get going in the right direction. On a side note smoked oysters have almost 60% of DV of iron in them, in the colder months I eat them on a regular basis to help me tolerate working outside for long periods. Seem to help???

:dunno:
I am not a Medical Doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn express last night..

Thanks...I'm sure I'll be fine... :please:

Sorry to hear of your problems... I'm sure your doctors will check you over thoroughly to find out the cause of the low iron. However, If it is not apparent to the doctor what may be causing the problem - keep lyme disease in mind. It is wide spread in the bay area and is often overlooked because of the wide range of symtoms that may or may not be present. I had a friend who was off and on again sick for a year with many of the same symtoms including anemia. It was lyme.

Yikes...I hadn't thought of that...I sure hope I don't have it. I understand it lingers for a LONG LONG time :please:

I hate to hear this Michelle. B-12 supplements could help with being tired and run down. But check with your doctor before taking them. I wish you the best. :beerchug:

You will be fine. Make sure you bring a DVD player and book. This will get to boosted and moving.

At least you wont have to drink it, that stuff is soooooo gross.:puke:

Hope this makes ya feel better soon girl!

Iron pills suck from listening to other women talk about it. Try cooking with an iron skillet if you don't. That's a cheesy way of getting more iron in the system. Red meats help too. Good luck with it.

PS - had to make sure this wasn't in the ladies lair before posting

I'll be praying for you 'Chelle! I hope you get better and fix it! But look on the bright side, with as low as you apparently are in iron, you don't have to worry about rusting... And you can wear wrinkled clothes, cause you're iron's on the fritz!:laugh:
