what's a good way to launch on asphalt and a good tire pressure? got this COCKY friend w a 06 gsxr 1000 that won't shutup about spanking my busa so we're going to mark off a 1/8 mile and i don't want to lose w a better bike. especially since i'm stretched and lowered and he's stock. he's a stunter and can ride the dog outta that bike, but i don't think he's ever been into drag racing and neither have i.

it would be so nice to -really- walk on him, so i appreciate the help.

also, i need a new rear tire so shinko 003 would be the best, right?? (for the road.. not track.. )

a stock wheelbase 1000?

it won't even be close, as long as you can ride decent enough....

Shinko 003, would be a good idea i used to run mine from 12-15psi

You better re read the original post:laugh: A stunter who can ride the dog outta his 1000 vs a guy asking how to launch his Busa and at what tire pressure. If you can't launch it, all the drop and stretch really doesn't matter. Busa's and 1000's are so close to begin with, and as always, it all depends on the rider.
No disrespect Djphoo, but you better practice your launches. i have a couple friends who can launch a stock length/height 750/1000 like you wouldn't belive, and yes, we stunt:laugh: As with most races with equal bikes and riders, the race is usually won/lost at the tree, flag, whatever you're usin.
It's all in good fun... but you better be ready!
And a 1/4 mile might give you just enough to inch him back out, or twice the distance to get smoked:rofl: Let us know how it turns out, and even better, video it!

good luck, if he is a good stunter then he has a lot of clutch control which is bad for you. meaning he most likely will get the better launch, not downing you bro just sayn, plus in 1/8 mile you have no time to run him down if you do get a good launch. practice your launches....a lot. :beerchug:

afterhours: see, there's actually two of us with busas that he's talking smack to, and we're both thinking like you, that we gotta be able to walk on him. i dunno bout my buddy tho, he's kind of a wuss with the bike. i'm not afraid to open the bike up, i just need to get some seat time on launching which i plan to. i had a 01 that was stock wheelbase that i used to launch and i could keep the front wheel close to the ground. with this new bike it's amazing, i can't get the front end up at all, but also that's cuz my stock tire keeps slipping. slips too @ 8k+ rpm. so i def need a better tire.

i just wanted some advice on what pressure and rpm would be good for asphalt so i could cut corners and just go right out practice without figuring it all out.

avg. rider will get beat by the 1000, expecially if he is a smaller rider. power to weight ratio the 1000 has us beat

Equal riders, stock vs stock or similiar mods, Busa will edge out a 1000, and start to walk away after the quarter mile.

Good luck they are pretty close. Skill will win the day and if you are lacking you will be toast.

People have run low or just under 9's in the 1/4 with a Busa with just a pipe an tune. How many people out there riding one these can actually go out an do it :poke:  practice makes perfect if you are serious spend some time at the track.

its not all about the launch, its about the acceleration as well. Yeah, the liter bike is lighter and has a better hp/lbs ratio...

but you can only accelerate so fast on a stock wheelbase, that litre have the front wheel in the air in 1st,2nd,and 3rd.......while a stretched 'busa is motoring away.

I see it all the time at the local 1/8 mile, and on the street.

as someone who's had 3 gen 1's, i can tell you the 1k's now are baaad:thumbsup:
i instigate it with busas and anything else now.
you guys'll take it on the wide open highway, but on the street, stock against stock:whistle:

sorry i have yet to see a stock wheelbase 1000, that can come close to my stretched 'Busa.

x2 i dont see a stock height, stock wheelbase 1k running with a lowered and stretched busa. i dont think any 1k has posted sub 10.0 times without at least being lowered?

hey i know it's going to come down to our launches. but other than that, he's 270+ (i'm 210), i got the height, length, full ti pipe + pc, and cc's. so it'll be interesting to see. at first i didn't equate wheelies w/ being good @ launching, but i could be dead wrong. if ya'll knew how cocky this guy is you'd be rooting for me.. it'll be in a week or two, but will post video if it's not too shameful (tome!)
