Fuel Gauge Question

Hey guys I have a question. Its about (duh) the fuel guage.

I don't trust my fuel guage unless its in the top or bottom quarter of its range. Anywhere in the middle, and its dropping like a rock. However, I was wondering if anyone has checked if indicated half tank is true half tank?

yeah that sounds about right. But do you know if the half tank mark on the guage is correct? Cause that would be extremely usefull

i would say so after that it goes quick my 08 with half a tank shows around 60-70miles and i fill up at 120-150 a tank and i'am putting in 3.9-to the most ever 4.6gals

i think the low fuel light comes on too soon. when it comes on you should have 1.3gal left i have gone allmost 40miles and still had like .8gal left

Yes, greyrocket is about right. When the yellow light came on for me I went about 25 miles and had about 0.7 gal remaining. Depends how you run. At that time I was runing in 4/5th gear 45 to 70 mph.

i have been testing what it can do city riding like i do  30milles and i still have anywhere from .7-1.0gal left. city ridding i'am getting about 29-32mpg. hwy 40-48mpg 48 being the best 202 for 1 tank all hwy and 7 run from 0-170:laugh:

u gotta take into consideration too that most of the volume of fuel in the tank is in the top half, so it will go a little slower on the full half. then it will start going down fast around half tank, then slow at the bottom b/c the fuel level isnt dropping as fast

On my 05 the indicated half tank is only about 1/3 tank left. I can go about 100kms before the needle moves off of full, about 90kms more to indicated 1/2 tank and then another 90kms to light on. Is there any way to adjust the float so that the gauge is more accurate?

Looks like it just reads a resistance from the position of the float. Would just need to change the resistance throughout the swing of the float arm.

I usually know i get about 200 per tank, sometimes more like 230+ when its slow and sometime 100ish when really fast. But I just pay attention to when the needle gets close to red, it just lets you know it time to fuel up.

Mine stays on full for a long time and drops relatively quickly from 3/4-1/4 but it also goes a long, long way( at least 60+ miles) after the low fuel light come on so I'd say it all equals out

Here's an easy way to check your fuel guage for accuracy! Fill her up and run it down until the guage reads exactly 1/2. fill that puppy up and if it holds 2.7 gallons, it's nuts on. If it holds more or less, you can remover the screws around the filler and gently pull the float out enough to bend the float wire up or down slightly. It doesn't take much so be gentle. It may take a couple/three times to get it nuts on.

I have performed this task on a number of busa's and it works quite well. I have not performed this adjustment on the 08. I checked my 08 and it's right on at 1/2 tank so no adjustment needed.

200+ on 1 tank? How are you guys riding? ???

I checked mine the other day and i got 215 and the light had never came on. It will go almost 100 miles before it comes off of full. I got 58.8 MPG and that was coming from the beach with an average of about 80 MPH. I was trying to see when the light would come on but i was running out of gas stations so i went a head and filled up. I don't know what i am doing but i always average around that. Of course i am not in the throttle every time i take off either but i do my share of going fast:laugh: I feel i have the best of both worlds. SPEED & POWER  What a way to live!!
