Fuel running issues on new gen3.

Recently I had my 2022 busa in for a running issue, it ran rough when cold , could smell fuel like it was flooding, when warm it ran rough ( sluggish throttle response) at low and mid range acceleration. After doing the 12k service where plugs were replaced with new ones, the problem continued, after a week it was diagnosed with a fuel sensor fault causing more fuel to be pumped into the injectors than required. It turned out that the sensor was faulty and there was problems with the fuel mapping. All covered under warranty. Point of not from Suzuki nz is that the gen3 runs richer than the previous models, running a high octane fuel especially if ethanol is added may cause running issues, so check with your respective shop/ mechanic and always ask your gas station when and how often they do a " water check " on their bowsers as required by laws applicable to your country, as its possible that water may get in to the tanks.cheers team ride hard

The good news is your bike is up and running like it should....

Unfortunate that you had to go through that in the first place though...

I’ve had this issue, need to get it in, thx

Can you find out exactly the part that was replaced?

What was your specific symptoms. I thought this was just me. Ive had like a stumble. I am curious what this sensor is as well.....
Every now and then, nothing I can put my finger on; I crank the bike, it idles up for a second and then drops to around 800 rpm’s. It smells of gas and if left alone will die. If revved up there’s smoke out of the brake side pipe. I typically keep it running and ride up town @ 8 miles and eat. Come out cranks fine. I fell an injector is open, flooding a cylinder. Nearly two years 33K miles. His complaint makes me want to get it looked at, which is very inconvenient; I ride practically every day. It’s an intermittent issue. But maybe it’s time. Been curious about the ECU reset as well

Updates for those who are interested. Problem still there, intermittently every second day from cold start, as recommended by Suzuki tech, they put hotter plugs in, ran sweet for 48hrs, this morning ran rough even after warming up, sluggish throttle response on take off( like miss firing) , even on throttle response at mid rage power ( 3000 rpm 100kph) give throttle a slight twist, sluggish response. As bike under warranty ( 24 months) Suzuki will continue to throw parts at it, but at what point will they recall the whole bike and replace it if the shop still cant find the fault? ,

Suzuki had how many years to get this bike right?

Hopefully they kick into high gear and sort them out.

Suzuki have taken a great interest in what's been happening, yes they do need to sort it out , our warranty period is 2 years but hopefully wont take that long, I was told by an independent mechanic ( Ray Clee) , who sets up race bikes including a new gen 3 hayabusa says that aftermarket mufflers may effect the bikes operation, but this sounds electrical, miss firing at low revs when riding bike and at 3000 rpm ( 100kph) when I gave it a bit of throttle it appeared sluggish.

I ride almost daily as well weather permitting. I go out two nights a week generally as well. I was on vacation last week and almost put 700 miles on it just putting around daily. I cant put my finger on it. I have tried throttle sync and all. Not sure where its coming from.

A follow up for those interested , the problem of the cold start and running rough is still under investigation by Suzuki NZ and also involving Suzuki Japan. They are collecting data from the tests to determine what the fault is and what needs to be done, they ran a,series of tests with the stock mufflers on , it ran marginally better but the problem is still there. It's a process of elimination I guess ( checking quick shift/ throttle bodies) . Will check ecu to see if that's attributed to problem. Symptoms for those who want to know in case these appear on their bikes. ( cold start , running as if it's on 3 plugs, strong fuel smell when warming up, once warm still runs sluggish on take of 1st gear and also mid range (3000 rpm @ 110 kph) , we ran hotter plugs to test its reaction, bike from new ran mint ( perfect) at 10400kms did the problem arise , Suzuki recommends not using high octane fuel ie 98 octane, especially if it has ethanol added. The gen3 runs richer than the previous models, and whether allowing it to idle too long to warm up may induce plug fouling, getting the bike out of " cold start" running sooner ( auto choke) . I'll keep you posted. If similar issues arise on other bikes on the site , collect data and consult your dealer, if there is a batch of bikes sold globally, mine may not be the only one. Cheers riders

Just an update, after 3 weeks of running the bike hoping it will play up, we decided to plug in a,data logging tool into the bikes computer, it finally played up for a whole day and the data, was recorded, Suzuki Japan now has the data and are trying to replicate the fault on a bike over there. Long story short, they dont know how long it's going to take to decrypt the fault and even longer to fix it, Suzuki here has Graciously offered me another bike to replace this one. Swapping over various parts ( screen/ ipack rack and my new set of road6 tires), I pick this new beast up tomorrow. I extend my appreciation to both Coleman's Suzuki of Auckland and Suzuki nz.

I'd like to see the live data from the ECU at startup cold, .....coolant temp sensor data,
....Intake air pressure sensor data, ....throttle position sensor data, fuel pressure, also would be good to see the exhaust gas analysis showing O2 and CO content (percentage) when cold and also when at normal operating temperature and also see the charge rate in volts.

Amazing that Suzuki NZ/Colemans offered you a NEW bike to replace that one, most shops would just keep you coming back for further testing and evaluation etc, basically just wear you down til you give up and go away, OR trade it on something else.

Mike, don't you Ork landers have winter up there?
Shouldn't you have the Busa tucked away under a thermal blanket in a heated garage?

Isnt that what Ducati owners do? When they they only rider to the local coffee shop wearing their winklepicker shoes

Unfortunately all the data was sent off to Suzuki japan so they can replicate the problem there, yes we get winters up here, but we also get more sodden rain , what has been identified is that it is intermittent on cold mornings. Anyway it's their problem now, Coleman's have always looked after me, remember dude, this is my fifth ( now six) hayabusa I've owned , all but one are brand new so they agreed that this problem could take weeks probably months so giving me another one was in good grace on their part. Who am I to disagree?

Mike, it would be Suzuki NZ supplying the replacement bike wouldn’t it?
Obviously Coleman’s went into bat for you, it’s so good to hear that they look after their customers.

Wow!
That is Great to hear, I am glad Suzuki is doing the right thing.
