Gear and levels of protection

Yeah, only thing I'm missing is an airbag system. Still want to do my homework there. Can you wear it with a neck brace though?

Airbag isn't gonna do jack poop for your spine, legs and arms, is it? So yeah, you need the CE armor there.
The airbag system comes with a back protector integrated. I wear mine with a neck brace at the track. No issues there.

Reasonable street boots?

...and doesn't the airbag do what the neck brace does?
I don't believe it does, well not exactly.

Neck brace prevents hyperextension of your neck. Airbag essentially increases the time over which force is applied, because it's soft and squishy, as opposed to being hard and inflexible.

I'm getting the helite turtle 2. It seems good, any suggestions?

With all my gear, and a top notch airbag system, I feel invincible.

I would save up a bit more and go with a Techair 10. The helite has gaps on the ribs under the armpit and the back that worry me. That and the lack of shoulder airbags to protect the clavicle when going down sideways or hips protection. Any airbag is better than no airbag but if you can I say go for the Techair10.

That what I wear on the street but the older version. Great light boots! I like all black so they don't look ridiculous on the street.

Techair10 looks good, except it's worn under your garments. Turtle 2 is mechanically activated, no need to worry about charging etc.

I think one could make a case either way, but for me, the main benefit is, wearing over garment, no need for correct 'spacing' between jacket and airbag (my jacket is snug).

I like G force activation over mechanical since it protects you even at a standstill. You do need some space in order for the airbag to deploy. If it's too tight it won't work properly.

I ran across a thread in a FB group where the writer was considering trading up from his older 'Busa to the current model. Most respondants went about comparing the features and benefits of the two models. But one argued that his decision was an emotional one that only he could answer. On some level he simply wanted the new machine. Only he could answer how much.

The two types of buying decisions brought me back to this thread, where, while I may emotionally want the "fancy / shiny" gear, I think most of us are in it (buying safety gear) for the features and benefits.

Deep thoughts...

Yeah, the safest gear is also the most expensive.

Also, lower protection/safety, allows more room for functionality and comfort. The safest gear is not going to be the most functional and/or comfortable, it's going to be the safest.

Just one example: some gloves look sleek and work with your touch screen, you can actually use your hand for fine control/manipulation. But, a full gauntlet CE 2 glove, if at all possible, is not going to be easy to use a touch screen, or for any fine control (getting keys out your pocket and using em etc).

I wanted a JT so badly. Then I would be as fast as David Bailey...

Please don't wear a neck brace and airbag together, unless they were specifically designed for this. Dakar just mandated airbags and as a result neck braces are no longer allowed. To my knowledge there are no airbag neck brace combinations out there yet.

@sixpack577, you're right, my turtle 2 does perform the same function as a neck brace when inflated.

Lastly, I just got ny AGV pista gp rr today and took it out for a spin... Jesus H Christ... only went 100 m/h, because it was a 10 mile trip with not much open road, but the aerodynamics were insane, at that speed I felt zero resistance in my head area, granted I am comparing to a cheapie $150 one-size too large polycarbonate helmet, but the AGV is pure bliss... this must be how tourers feel, with their big ass windshields, no wonder they're always uprigjt even at high speeds.
