Gear indicator issue

Hi All,

Test ride 200 miles already after the filter replacement and bike is in extreme good condition

So me and my itchy ass, I adjusted the gear lever a little bit for a comfortable position. And bam!

I got this gear 1>2>3(3-4-5)>4>5>6 (I got no Tre install)

So apparently at gear 3 maintaining the rpm, the gear did not jump but the display jumping between 3 to 5 (mostly between 3 and 4). As this cause the ecu to apply different maps.

I reset back the gear lever back to the default position and it still act the same.

Does adjusting the lever can cause this problem? Pure luck for me? I search the forum apparently many say this is a common and replace the gear sensor will do the fix.

The gear position sensor is in the engine behind the clutch basket.

Adjusting the lever would not cause a problem.

The easiest thing to do is check the wire and plug coming from the sensor make sure that it's seated properly. With no damage.

Hi Busa Quick

Thanks for advise. What a luck I have. Manage to solve so much issue and new issue came in.

Will follow ur method. I guess if the connection is okay means I gotta change the gear switch sensor ya.

Stock GPS sensors are junk. Some work ok, some are terrible. I've had examples of both.
I can only say I have bad luck.

I spray alot of contact cleaner onto it. Still same. Ordering the sensor too. Coincidentally, a friend of mine on a L5 also had the exact same problem. But his is on gear 5. Mine on gear 3...

I am amaze with the gen 1. My friend on the gen 1 even after 15 years with mileage of 130k miles is still going strong. But the gen 2

And recently while testing my bike. Did a wheelie and my radiator just had a pin hole leak. I dunno is the impact on landing or it just my luck.

I will be replacing the radiator and gear sensor together. My pocket hurts...

Good luck with the sensor is all I can say. On my race bike I switched over to an aftermarket sensor that works great, but a factory ECU won't support that on a stock bike.

Both the Gen1 and Gen2 are overall very reliable. I'd say the Gen2 is more reliable just because they have a better transmission. The radiator is just bad luck.

If a bike has been left in the weather for a year or two, it's not a problem if they are run regularly, but a bike that just sits develops all manner of issues. Take the radiator for example, oxygen is the enemy but at operating temperatures it's all boiled off and takes a while to leach back in. just look inside your kettle sometime, before it actually boils the water you'll see a gazillion little bubbles form and rise to the surface. That's the oxygen being driven out. If the bike sits the oxygen builds up and starts eating at the metal. Oxygen loves Aluminium. Yum Yum. Seals in moving forks etc are getting lubricated all the time, but in a bike that sits for a year they dry out and can subsequently fail. It's not easy to tell if a bike or a car has sat unused for a year or more, typically the problem come later, one after another after another.
