Gen 2 Busa Ecu Flash

Saw his name numerous times on the forum and he appears to be highly recommended, but I'm sure there are a number of tuners/builders/performance shops that offer this service...and at prices ranging from $60-$350...surely $350 gets you more than the $60 rate?? I'm getting those figures from websites btw...

We have a couple of site sponsors here that you can choose from. All of which will do quality work for a far price.

Thanks...I've seen a few on this forum...in regards to my previous post...ECU Unleashed is by far the most costly...what separates a 75 -100$ flash from a 350-450$ flash...that's the cost or more than a 2-3 hr dyno session...

I'd get a fuel map from someone you have confidence in. Achieving proper adjustments in the fuel table is no mystery once you learn the PC5 software (which will require a lot of study and practice). The AFR table is the magic and AutoTune won't do that for you. you have to have an AFR table created by someone who knows what they're doing. Of course, you can just go with whatever AFR is considered optimal for peak power throughout the map but I like the multiple AFR of my base map slightly better. If you want to construct an AFR table yourself, better know what you're doing.

Here is what you are up against. Do you want to do this? The fuel dump stairway (cruising zone tuning) may be specific to the ZX-14 but there is no reason you could not follow that and all of the same steps with a busa.

and if you are not dissuaded yet, you really need to be at least familiar with most of this before you start tuning.

Again for the million time no Woolich use only ECU editor
sorry, Johnny. I thought ECU Editor was flashing. So, reprograms in the same language as Suzuki software?? ANother advantage. and free. And return to stock anytime you want and no one will be the wiser?

Also, BANDITBUSA, If you want to tune your whole map, you have to ride the bike that fast. 40% throttle will go mighty fast but it takes a hell of a long time time before that tachometer stops climbing. You will be taking risks.

Easy way: send JC your ECU for editing and ask him to send you his PC5 map for fueling. Install PC5, load map, done. Play with Auto tune all you want but I doubt very much you will feel any dif. Use a laptop to start. Might want to get an AFR gauge or POD-300 later. I like my LCD-200 just fine if you can find one of those used.

If timing is necessary for boost or whatever, ask for ignition map and plan to get an ignition module to load that to. I don't think Johnny feels there is anything to be gained by adjusting naturally aspirated Gen2 timing though.

 followed by facepalm...that's good info but a little extensive for the time I have available to me...so thanks...I think?? Lol...so a Cheese flash and his PC5 map will put me in the ballpark?

Ok...one last question on this subject and I'm letting it rest...why are some of the flash services adjusting the fuel maps in the ECU and others don't touch it?

If you are being sold an air/fuel map as part of a flash, it's one of 2 things.
1. Someone very reputable has a dyno or auto tune map that you could use as a base map.
Possible, but very unlikely, at least as far as a flash from a seller goes.
2. And most likely, they are liars, and/or idiots. Idiots as in adjusting the a/f with no way to measure what they are doing.

It is overwhelming. If you take an interest you can do it. No more complex than word processing software but it's all new info you have to learn. If you just want to ride, I say "screw it," just go out and ride with your ECU editor and fuel map made by reputable tuner in the PCV. Don't toss the Autotune. Try it out anyway. Doubt it will turn your head. My base map was made about 600 feet lower than my elevation and Autotune is pretty much irrelevant except I find it so fascinating, I had to learn it....but no real change in the ZX-14 except maybe slight reduction in decel pops which I sorta liked anyway. busa doesn't seem to have that. LOL you could tune your busa so it would make decel pops and flames!

I think possibly some tuners might recognize the limitations their customers have when having something like fueling permanently hardwired. If their fueling is wrong for you because you live in the mountains and they live on the coast, setting your fueling will not make your bike run better. Now imagine the confusion when tuning for boost. If I'm going to bolt on a NOS, I want to adjust stock fueling numbers. It's complex enough to adjust that. WTF would I want to adjust fueling for nitrous that that has already been adjusted for stock fueling... x10 for timing.

Long and short, get the ECU parameters that universally improve riding enjoyment and excitement. Keep the rest stock so you can change it as you wish. ECU Editor, good fuel map, play with adjusting by Autotune just to learn about that if you're into it. Very doubtful it will make an appreciable change unless you are looking to cut a couple hundreths off your quarter mile.

If you feel Johnny's fuel map isn't quit good enough, you can easily change it to some other map as long as you have the PC5 hooked up. If you ask him to hardwire his fuel map to your ECU, no other map will come close to being right. It could well be dangerous to run a map based on stock fueling through an ECU not programmed for stock fueling.

Autotune is really valuable for people who ride at altitudes where most don't. I know of one guy in South Africa who lives in the mountains and his bike ran much better after Autotuning. Not a lot of maps made in the mountains, I guess.

Off on a slight tangent, but regarding ECU Tuning, does anyone know if you can cut & paste tables or does each cell have to be manually input ?

If you are using Autotune or if you have a map file open from your desktop, you can send just one table instead of the whole map. If you only want to send certain cells from a map table or Autotune table, you can erase all others out very easily then send what you want. If you are using Autotune and you only want to tune a certain column or certain cells, just zero out all cells/columns from your Target AFR Table you don't want to tune. Autotune will only make/suggest trims for the value of target AFR cells. If the value is 0, no trim is made. It's all in the tutorial linked earlier in one of my posts on this thread. BTW, I would look into WB2 instead of Autotune 200 because WB2 is a bit more advanced and the same price.

As I only downloaded ECU Tune yesterday, this may as well be written in Chinese, but thanks.

With the considerable help of Sixpack577, I've got the basics down to flash the ECU for the Fans, TRE, STP and Speed restrictor..... As for delving any further on my own - I doubt it.

Ohhhhh .... Looky whats just been dropped through my door.

Play time !!
