Gen 3 hump

Saw this on webbike. I beleive I had read somewhere that removing the hump wasn't as easy as in previous Generations. Seems like in Japan removing or adding the hump requires a notification to the government of going from single seater motorcycle to 2 seater. Baffling really. Anyone else ever hear about this?

Not quite, but we do have rules for: If you have passenger footpegs, you must have a passenger seat. Or if no seat, then the passenger footpegs should be removed..
I think everyone stopped paying attention to that about 1920.. But if the bike goes in for a Road Worthy check, it must comply to those rules

Sounds like a pretty stupid law (structural inspection) as the bike comes with the hump and is part of the design of the bike.

I guess technically everything on the bike would have to be returned to original condition for an inspection. Even changing the air filter to an aftermarket high flow unit would not be allowed.

A friend of mine moved from the UK to France and in order for him to get his motorcycle inspected, he had to change the exhaust as France has a special stamp code requirement for exhaust systems.

No such thing around here, only the basics-lights, horn (switches working), mirror, tires and brakes....the bike doesn't have to run to pass an inspection as long as there's power.

In QLD, insurance stays the same regardless and department of transport doesn’t care if you have a pillion seat and pegs on a single seat rego.

Basically they said it’s your own fault if you take a passenger whilst it’s not rego’d for it.

In my area of the U.S. there's no inspections required, and no emissions tests. Plus you can do any mods you want... I'm in the process of turbocharging my ZX14, and the only thing required is my insurance wanting me to keep receipts for the turbo kit for my full coverage. Man it's nice to live somewhere that still gives you some freedoms. The right to open carry is also nice in these dangerous times
