Has anyone opened up the oem header and gutted it yet? Id love to just gut this thing and put two cans on and be done. Hell Id be down for an underbelly exhaust for it too. Just searching for better options.

No, but having gutted my old gen2 converter I can tell you that alone is a bad idea, as you lose back pressure, and you can feel the bike momentarily hesitate at low rpms, until pressure builds.
You would need to weld in pipes in it's place, even if they are hidden inside the old shell of the converter.
But, you're feet will be cooler without such a concentration of heat there, so it's worth doing if you don't want to buy an aftermarket header.
But an "underbelly" exhaust is going to put alot of heat around your feet and legs, especially at low speeds, stopped, and will cook a passenger's legs.
Just something to consider.

There are so many options for exhaust systems out there, why go this route for an expensive motorcycle?

If need be all the gen 2 systems fit and you only need to get the O2 sensor adaptor...

I never had an issue on my GSXR 1000. Had the Taylormade exhaust and man that thing was sexy. Heat was never an issue.

I want a dual full system or a underbelly. Neither is available at present

Brocks doesn't fit. And no one has posted on full dual system bolted on. Honestly no I do not expect it especially now that taylormade is out of business.
There's a whole pile of gen 2 dual systems out there somewhere....you can use one of those and get the O2 adapter from Brocks.

Or, go the route @bigoltool suggested...

It's worth the effort to make your baby happy....and get the look you're after.

Problem is that no one is making full dual gen2 exhaust new anymore.
I guess they weren't big enough sellers.
Akropovic, Yoshimura Japan, Ti-Force(out of business, Hindle(gen1), Brocks dual CT and the Vance&Hines ss universal header(fit all slipons and stock mufflers) was all there was.
@Spudley posted a de-cat clamp-on H- pipe earlier today too(cut cat off, clamp on, use any dual mufflers), but then you don't have the benefit of larger down pipes.
I think he's about exhausted his resources looking too.
I found leftover stock of full dual Akropovics with Titanium mufflers, but the full system is $2300+ tax and shipping.
Maybe someone put a bug in Brocks ear for a batch of his old full dual headers, which were likely made by Hindle.
Give Brock a call Spud!

Right, gotcha...

Seeing as the Hayabusa isn't as mainstream as it once was I can imagine finding such things will be harder and harder.

Since I've recently dug back into the Gen3 busa stuff, I have been quite surprised how few aftermarket items there are. I figured (aka hoped) manufacturers would have been on top of things, but guess after so long of a Gen2, they gave up.

Well, there has to be enough Gen 3's in people's hands to create a market. Developing parts takes some time and money to do properly. They could also be worried that until someone unlocks the ECU, their products aren't going to perform well so they don't want their reputations bashed on a system that is not optimally tuned.

On the dual system thing, part of the marketing of aftermarket exhausts is weight reduction. Part of the dramatic weight reduction is dropping the second, completely unnecessary can. I personally love not having the can in the way of the chain for maintenance purposes and of course, it looks more sporty. Anyway, if you have to have a second can, get a full exhaust and just add a dummy can for symmetry. I would do that before going on a science experiment cutting and patching the OEM system.

This is true. I guess with how big the busa following use to be, I had in my head that manufacturers would be first in line or already had the bike to start on aftermarket items like swingarms, wide tires, etc.

If you are into the big tires and stretches....they are already covered...

Suzuki was smart by using the gen 2 as a basis for the gen 3 as many of the aftermarket (minus body stuff) fits it...why reinvent the wheel (so to speak)?

Are we not a discerning group ?.......Very unique, and eclectic.

I have another post in the other exhaust thread. I'm talking to a guy named Rich. Turns out, Akra sells rebuild, and repair kits for a lot of mufflers. If this guy can find that muffler in CF, and has the kit, we can drill the rivets, and replace.:firing:

Thus your titanium kit will become CF.

....and only be $4k+
I've shortened many a muffler over the years, and it's really easy.
That's just a huge expense for an exhaust.

Also remember that there are so many things available for the Gen 1 & 2 bikes because they have been around for 20+ years! They don't sell many per year but a big chunk of bikes have been rolling and active for much of that 20 years. That makes the Gen1 & 2 busas a target-rich environment for companies marketing parts.

If you think about it, it's probably difficult to even get a Gen 3 to test parts fit on.

 No doubt-no doubt.

I'm still considering other options. A lot of $$$ just to fly their flag.
