Going to single rotor?

What are some of the pros and cons of going to a single front rotor? Good for drag and bad for street or whats the deal?

TIA

Allot do it for cosmetic reasons so you can see the aftermarket wheel, drag racing it is about loosing weight and rotating mass, for the street it is ok but be aware unless you upgrade the single rotor and caliper you will lose considerable stopping power.

Good for drag or show, bad for street. Basically 2nd rotor is there to help you enjoy future riding and not become a statistic. At the point in which you realize you need it,is when it's probably to late. Yes they have people riding with only one on the street. To me it's just not worth the risk. Front brakes are 75-80% of your breaking. Why lose the power to stop?

Wanna shave weight? Diet!
Wanna improve looks? Mod someplace that isn't critical to your riding experience.

However I don't wear full riding gear, but there are members who think it's foolish to do so. I wear gloves and Helmet(in a state where it isn't required). If I was an aggressive rider,I would be wearing more gear. I know... "NO Excuse!"

Basically it really boils down to the risk any one person is willing to take. Not stopping in time isn't one I am willing to take. Cause that force that completes the stop is gonna hurt a lot more then looks or weigh loss.

Do a search.
Lots of pros and cons to it.
I figure there are 2 for a reason.
They aren't going to add all that is required for 2 if it isn't required.

Good Luck!

I have it done on my built 02 1k, and my 99 busa. I also have hh pads, and stainless braided lines though. I use my transmission to slow doen alot, along with the front brake. I really dont notice a big difference in it at all as far as stopping power goes and I dont even have aftermarket rotors on it. I do it to all my bikes, mostly because I drag them, but I do alot of road riding as well... Just my .02 tho...

Here is the reason I ask, I found that the bike I got only has one rotor. I dont know how it took me this long to notice but I did. The bike was originally set-up as a drag bike (not pro by any means) but I figured this was done because of it. I'm looking at either putting it back on (buying one) or at least upgrading it.

why don't you just get rid of them both...

they got this new thing called 360 brakes... Its a very nice 1000 dollar mod
look it up

Isn't it when the brakes get heated up they become less effective? Making another reason for single rotors undesirable?

the single rotor will work fine......around town. however if you plan on taking it to a track or thru the local mountains....you will overheat the single rotor.

in an emergency situtaion the most important factor in stopping is not the size of the rotors or calipers,,,and definately not the number. the limiting factor is traction.

if your single rotor can lock the front wheel.....there is no advantage to having to, because the traction is still the same.

race, or high speed oriented sport bikes have dual braking systems to avoid failure due to multiple high speed braking manuevers overheating the brake system.....not to improve "one time" emergency braking.

If your an agressive rider...have 2 rotors.
OR if single atleast upgrade the one you have with wave rotor, pads, and braided lines.:beerchug:

my 2 cents.... why would you reduce stopping power ? just doesnt sound safe to me... but to each his own, i gotta 330 kit and im pretty sure there are a lot of people who dont like it, so in all honest do whatever makes YOU happy !!!

Im going to buy a set of upgraded rotors here in a little bit, I will try one at first if I need the second I will get another caliper. I just ride socially so I dont think its too big of a deal but as I get better I will for sure go with 2.

Also 1 rotor can lock up the wheel no problems there. I have already done a brake check to see what is up and works great, but im sure heavy riding will kill that pretty quickly.
