GoPro HD Resource Thread-Discussion-Settings-Mounts-Cards-Results

Sounds like yours is the original HD model and not the Hero HD or newer Hero2.

The three settings go like this:
First two settings are 720p which is still HD but not 1080. Although some consider 720p to be a 'smoother' image. One setting is 60fps or frames per second and the other is 30fps. You would use the 60fps setting when you will most likely want to watch what you recorded in slow motion. I guess since you are drag racing and only capturing a few seconds this will be best setting. 30fps captures and plays and looks the same as 60fps at regular speed but uses less space on data card and pc. With 30fps you can record longer videos on the data card. The third setting is 960. This will give you a video that captures more of a taller image with not so much side to side view whereas first two settings capture wide angle videos with not as much top and bottom view.

I put one of my mounts on a RAM plate; now it works with any RAM mounts/extensions

We are going to a monster truck/arena cross event tomorrow night, and I thought I would take the GoPro and play with it a bit. Since mine is the older version, should I use th wgmv mode?

Not sure. Record a bit and change settings. Then record some more. Make note of which number file was using what setting. By that I mean everytime you start and stop recording it shows how many vids/files you have made. Say file 1 was at 960 and file 2 was at another setting and so on. Then watch them at home and see which one gave you what you're looking for.

Good idea!! I will have to try that. I dont think it will give me quite as good video as a camcorder, but it will be neat to see what it does. Then I am going to come home and try my editing skills!!! LOL!!

If its an Hd model it will record high def and most likely look better than a camcorder.
Only thing is that it will be a wide angle and straight things on sides of frame will appear slightly bent.
Like a straight pole in side of video will appear crooked. Other than that the video itself is usually better than your average camcorder

Going to make my first Go pro video on the tomorrow morning ride. I have the HD2 motorsport. Using the suction cup mount to focus on the meters. Set it up at 1080 and 30fps with a 16 gig card. Hopefully , the video shall come out nice. My only concern is that the suction mount decides to lose suction at 150 mph :please:

Use some sort of lanyard. I use the reminder cable from my disc lock. Wrap it around my fork and then over the suction cup. But I've been to speed many times and even with it suction cup on side fairing it stayed there.

I am assuming a suction cup on a side fairing is susceptible to much more wind turbulence than one on the tank behind the screen. So as you said that it stayed put even when you had one on the fairing i would hope mine would too. But thank you for the lanyard idea. Will do it as a security measure. Any specific video setting you recommend other than 1080 to focus on the meters ?

Big Ron the 1080 will eat up a lot of memory of the card. Use that really only if you plan on watching your vids in slow motion. The 720 @ 30fps will be fine.

Trax where is you camera made?

The "replay XD 1080" camera I ordered a couple days ago has not arrived yet. It is supposed to arrive next week.
Those other threads of mine with video of the "Replay XD 1080" were not mine, I got those off youtube when I was shopping for cameras for comparison.

I am not sure where the "Replay XD 1080" is from but when it gets here I will let ya know. Who knows it is probably from China also, isn't everything now-a-days?

Being made in China isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess.

I have the Replay XD 1080 and IMO its wayyyyy beter than the GO Pro HD hero2. The replay is a lot better in low light situations also and is much more aero-dynamic, made and manufactured in California, NOT China.
Check out this cool youtube video done with the "Replay xd 1080" mounted in various locations:

Oh Bummer. The damn memory card is stuck inside the slot. Refuses to come out. Anybody out there ever opened a Go Pro. There are 4 screws under the battery terminal. I am hoping removing the screws will dismantle the cam in 2 pieces and give me access to the card slot.:banghead:
