gotta ask (Busa Good First Bike?)

Just remember, a busa is one of the FASTEST bikes made in the world! And you want it as a first bike? It would be a wiser choice to start with a sportbike that is a 600cc. Going from dirtbikes to a busa is a big jump. I myself had a CBR 600 and just got a busa. It's a ton of power with a responsibility!

Hi... I hope by all the responses you've already received you'll still be able to make a decision but I believe it all come down to your own riding limitations. Experiance is a must, everyone knows that but when it comes down to it you have to know what you ... the rider is able contend with. My own experiance in getting to now what is my 2nd Hayabusa, started with a 74 Honda 200. I then went to an 82 Yamaha Seca 650, then to a 94 Honda CB 1000, then to a 97 Yamaha YZF 1000 and finally a Hayabusa. It was (as you can see) a gradual change and I do most of my riding long distance. I say limitations and knowing what your own are for a reason. People seem to lose their heads when it comes to riding a Busa...not all people but I think we all know someone like this. You don't seem to be the type according to your description. I'm on my second Busa only because I chose to sell my first because of becoming really ill (long story) but 2 years later was when I knew I could handle one again, well I had to go and get another one. I had a lot of choices for bikes out there but all in all I knew what the Hayabusa rode like and it just doesn't get any better. I am about to turn 36 and I know I'll have this bike till I can' stand it up on my own anymore. It is incredible.... but is it for you? Well, basically if you were just someone looking for the title "I own a busa" then no, but I think you're an exception and if you are really level headed I don't think you'll have any problems... just as some have already said .. take er slow. You will enjoy this ride if you decide to get it but a test run would greatly clear any doubts you may have. Good Luck!

Hey how is everyone doing? I am brand spanking new to the forums and am brand new to owning a motorcycle. I just picked up a 2005 Hayabusa the other day in a trade for my drag racing car. I wont be riding till about spring of 2010 being that I am in iraq right now and wont be back till October of this year and I am going back to upstate ny just intime for the real cold weather. All my friends drive hayabusas and they told me that its all in the wrist as long as you take it easy and responsibaly on the throttle i will be fine. So I decided to go ahead with the trade sow now I got a busa waiting in my garage for when I get home. I am really excited and hope everything goes well. I am gonna take the MSF course and all that good stuff to get some expiriance before riding the busa even though my buddies tell me your gonna learn to ride a 250 in the class and then your gonna have to learn all over again when you get on your busa. Well anyways I plan to be very active in this forum to learn as much as I can about my bike before I even get on it. I am 25 and have been drag racing cars legally and illegaly since I been 16 but I am not gonna lie everytime I think about racing my busa I have to go change out my underwear. Thats not saying that I never will drag race it but im pretty sure that it wont happen for a very very long time. Fast on 4 wheels I feel safe... but fast on 2 wheels i feel like a 5 year old girl with Freddy Cruger standing in front of me.

You know, I did alot of bike shopping this past weekend and I found out why I want a busa so much. It's not so much the speed, that's just a perk. I don't like cruisers and I did not find ANY of the straight on sportbikes comfortable at all...although the 07 (not 08+) came the closest to being somewhat comfortable but the ergos on the supersport bikes were much much better. They don't seem that different until you actually sit on them.....just my :2cents:

My opinon, get a 750cc sport bike first and ride that for 2-5 years first. Then buy 1000cc and ride that for 2-5 years. Then get a busa. If I had a busa at your age and I started riding at 9 years old. I would be dead. Good luck and welcome.:beerchug:

Im 24 years old. Started riding a bone stock 03 busa. 6 months later it was stretched with a ton of Brock's stuff on making 170whp. Another month after that, it had a dry shot on it making 200whp. About 3 more months of that and i sold it to buy a 300whp turbo busa. Never had prior riding experience :)

Hello all this is my first post of many. I will be getting a busa very soon it will be my first bike sort of. I am not dumb and a brand new bike dropped, well is a brand new bike dropped. I will be heading out to local dealerships. to see if I could get a good deal on a used sv or the 600 gixxer at the same time part of the reason for this would be everything I have financed through my life has been written off for business, cars computers if it could be written off it was. The only problem with this is no Real credit history. So I figure with a loan that would not grab for more cash when I pay it of six months sooner then the last date it would look good. Kill two birds with one stone help my credit get a busa and a starter bike that I will not mind dropping once or twice (or a lot):beerchug: then come next year or the end of the season hop on the busa for some classes with it to make sure I get the most out of my money and keep all four limbs.

Just got done looking at the suzuki finacing program, it is actullay just a glorified credit card. So no help there, just have to talk to my bank.

I can see it now. You'll be standing in the garage looking back and forth between the two bikes. The temptation will be great! Once on the Busa, your right wrist will be tempted as well. "Just how fast can all these horses haul me down this stretch anyway?" It can all be over before you know what hit you. I'm not saying that you can't handle a Busa safely. I don't think it's about handling the bike nearly as much as it's about handling yourself. The deep digits come faster than you'll ever expect. Just my :2cents:

BTW :welcome:

I'm 37, I've owned everthing from Honda V-45 to a Yamaha V-Max. (9 bikes total) I was just now ready for a Hayabusa.

TBH, they have some new 08 zx6r's for 6700 and they are under 7500 OTD. I am thinking that they would probably take 7k OTD for a brand new Zx6.....which although it isn't what I really want it may be a good compromise with price considered too...a bike is better than no bike IMO

 It can be done.........it just takes some self control and good judgement. Unfortunately not everbody has them in the required amounts

If a busa is your first bike you will miss out on how much fun there is riding a smaller motorcycle. I love the Busa and my last bike was a Triumph Speed Triple and that bike was fun. It was a bike I could run to the red line through the gears - all the time grinning at the sound and exhilaration of working the bike. It is hard to do that on the street on a Busa.

Learning and gaining experience on a small to medium bike (250 - 600) means you can experience playing with gears and revs and throw the bike through the twisties and back country roads. A Busa is a bike to buy once you have had that experience. Full throttle in 2nd gear to the red line on the Busa scares the hell out of me

jwcfbd Said : "I had my Busa for just over three months when I hit a tree on it."

I found the video on YouTube
- newby hits a tree on an SV650[/url]

Yeah, I agree. Get a small dumpy bike to get used to, get more street experience. They spend the cash on the Busa. Peace.
