gotta ask (Busa Good First Bike?)

my first bike was a busa and I wouldn't have it any other way,I took things slow and learned too ride with no problems, but am also in martial arts and have the balance and displine too handle the bike,

07 Busa here.
First sportbike ever.
Had a couple Harleys before , idont see how i used to ride those things.

08 Busa first sportbike, was thinking about driving in chicken (c mode) then working up to full power don't see any point in buying two bikes, i have no intrest in rolling burnouts standing wheelies or any hey look at me stunts (it's just not my thing) I just like riding taking it easy knowing that I have a lot of room to grow with this bike and its been said before not paying attention or not respecting anything will get you in trouble.

I bought mine as a first bike. I guess it was a ego enhancer? As long as you respect the bike and act like you have some sense between your ears then you should be fine. Once you think you have that badboy tamed it's

and not in a nice way lol.

Picked up my brand new 2006 spec busa on tuesday. I've had loads of bikes over the years and part ex'd a '97 fireblade to get the 'busa. I've read lots of the posts on this subject and have to say I still find it hard to believe that in the states you can just go out and buy one! however, this is the first "New" bike I have owned and so it's the first time in over 30 years of riding bikes that I've had to run one in (break in?). I've done only 70 miles, the bike felt strange AND because I'm not going beyond 4000 rpm it feels tame. By the time it's fully run in at 1000 miles I know I'm in for a shock when I let her have full throttle. I guess what I'm saying is if you buy a brand new bike you will HAVE to go slowly for the first 600-1000 miles. This will help you get used to the bike.

Glad really we don't have the option of just buying whatever we can afford.

Stay safe, Pete

These "First bike Threads" are like "Doctor Shoppers"

You can run around post and get replies until you get the ones you "Want" to hear and then you are off and running.. Patients are the same way, they will go Dr to Dr until they get the diagnosis they want to hear.. (guess thats why some end up in MX getting their livers pulled out via the witch doctors)

There seems to be a consensus among these threads however... Age and experience seems to have a direct bearing on reply...

I think everyone should jump on a machine that is clearly a top of the line performer and regardless of their ability or natural skills ride in total bliss... (no point in learning instinctive reactions on a bike that might be going 50mph slower in the same amount of time... falling off should be done at speed to provide the best retained learning experience)

The parts market needs the donor bikes anyway.... (always check that same box on your drivers license as well)

Hayabusa makes the ultimate first and only bike for hundreds every year!

I'll go out on a limb and say this. The busa was my first bike and I haven't crashed. It depends on the person and maturity level. If u know what the busa is capable of then u won't be an idiot. Just my .02.

Welcome everyone. I am a newbie to the Busa scene. I just purchased my very first Busa on 2 Aug 08 in Richmond VA

. My baby has only 5000 miles and I got her for $7600 and she's a 2005(bone stock). I must admit, that I did underestimate the power behind the Busa. I was riding with my sister's boyfriend (05 R1) and I twisted the throttle for the first time, and this Busa had me feeling like I was about to come off the seat. I'm thrilled to finally have my bike and thrilled to be apart of this forum. Your comments and suggestions are always welcomed.

Man Look here, its your choice!
I had not been on a motorcycle for over 15 years!! No dirt bike, no ATV's. The first bike I bought and still own with no damage, BUSA! The bike doesn't matter it all comes down to the rider. Take your time, learn the bike and know your limits and everything will be fine.

I had a couple of dirt bikes before I bought my first street bike.. loved wheelies.. I bought my first street bike as you see in the pic. 89 gsxr 1100 new.. if anything it taught to me to wheelie the heck out of that bike..
I recently bought a 03 busa with 909 miles, and love it.. but you realy need to know your limits.. these bikes are quick and fast.. the power is very tempting. when I say limits, I mean be sure you have plenty of time to safely slow it down.. it can bite you.. I would rather be around another day, than to be picking up the pieces...

CID I wont try to talk you out of it because I do not know you BUT I have said before the busa is a attitude adjuster, besides the obvious things of rideing any motorcycle, with the busa DO NOT EVER drop your guard do not never not pay attention, just to give you a idea, about the time just about any other bike runs out of steam the busa is just starting to feel its oats, and you'l be going almost 190 MPH befor you can think about it, and one thing is for sure, there is very few roads you can run like that safely and none leagaly

well, first bike? hmmm. i've ridden sportbikes for 40 yrs now and the busa is fairly easy to ride if you respect it and progress through the learning curve. but, as a high perf bike it is a bit heavy, so if you are under maybe 5'8", less than maybe 150 lbs it will probably be a handful for you.

(if you are a little guy an R1, etc might be easier to ride)

so i would say if you are a bigger guy, have ridden dirt bikes, and are careful it is an ok first bike---the first 30 days are the most important, get on it in stages, be cautious leaned over while giving it throttle, very easy to break tire free.

you might find that insurance will be very expensive. it will take you 3-5K miles before you get confident.

have adequate medical insurance in case you get hurt.

I have 4 bikes now, bought in this order 02 1400 intruder, 03 1500 intruder, 08 c109rt, 08 Busa... have 90,000 miles total on just the bikes I currently own(was in Iraq for 14months, this should explain the "LOW" mileage) I would not buy a BUSA as my 1st street bike. Cant say that I have enough experience to be able to fight off the WILD HAIRS of taking the busa to tripple digits. Do your wife a favor and get some street cred on another bike... then make the move to the bus.

purpose behind wanting the Busa: pure cruising enjoyment *

also you can call it love at first site *

okay thats who i am, now judge me with any rational reasons why I shouldnt get this bike, i promise i wont get mad[/QUOTE]

canI-
after reading your post, I cant help but think that you are trying to hide the fact that you actually are a speed freak, and one of the main attractions for the 'busa is its raw power. You stated that you just wanted to cruise.........well now, my first bike was an RF900, and when I got that bike I was 31 years old.....and very mature for my age, as I always have been. Within 2 weeks of getting this bike and riding with friends who were on their bikes, as I still had my learners permit, I was doin a buck 40 down the interstate......mature, cruising individual, yeah. The busa is a million times more tempting when it comes to twisting the throttle...the stability and efficiency with respect to how this machine puts power to the ground is amazing. When you are cruising down the interstate at say, 70 mph (the speed limit in some states) the thought WILL and DOES go through your head regarding the fact that all you have to do is twist the throttle and you are GONE....no down shift required.

I would recommend a smaller bike first, or an actual cruiser, if you are into just cruising. I am now approaching the ripe old age of 40, and climbing on the busa makes me feel like a little boy all over again, I can only imagine what kind of mistakes I would have made with a machine of this potential at your age.

Good luck, I'm sure you make the mature decision.
