Gotta love these people....

Some guy driving a noisy Genesis car all lowered and such...saw my bike in my driveway, spun around and pulled in.....

He said he heard there was a Hayabusa in the neighborhood and asked me if I'd race him because he just got his car all sorted out and wanted to see how it would do against a fast bike.

I told him he has the wrong guy and bike for that sort of thing as I'm too old and the bike isn't going to race anyone.

He then asked me if he paid someone and covered all my expenses if I'd let them race my bike.

I laughed and told him to keep looking, maybe take an ad out or something...

He was disappointed but understood and left....

My wife was gardening and asked me if she heard what she thought she did and when I told her she said that was pretty bold.......and glad I said no....

That would have been an easy one Bee. Say Yep but I don't race for less than $200.

Easy kill. Take the wife out for a coffee with the $200.

It's Canada afterall. :-)

That all sounds good, but tell me:

If you sit at a traffic light, no popo around and this dude coincidently pulls in next to you, then the light goes green, would you allow him to just take off and see him go?

Most definitely.....I have done this numerous times.....

My desire to either show off or race is far behind me.

You gonna sell the Busa and get a moped?

I would fail, would not be able to withstand the temptation.

Exactly that happened to me recently, between traffic lights. When I hit 90 mph, I closed down throttle, the Corvette came flying past and the next light the Popo had him pulled over. They waved a finger at me but did not get me on their radar.

I probably would have accepted the race offered also, and enjoy a lunch with the guy while we do a post mortem of the event.

You only live once.

I've lived a full life and for some reason or another I have survived this long......so why push the envelope at this point?

I enjoy owning my bike, I don't feel the need to prove to others what it is and what it can do....I save that for when I'm alone out on a back road someplace that I know is decently safe and free of idiots and wild life.

If someone has the need or desire to prove how special they are, I say have at it but don't involve me.

Your example of the Corvette is a perfect example of what awaits such actions.....I see no reason to put myself through that just to prove how fast my bike is or isn't.

I still race bicycles, masters, done this since I was 9 years old as a juvenile. So the competitive spirit will never leave me.

I don’t see competition as a desire to prove how special we are, besides the fact that it has kept me in shape and away from medication and illness.

If I see a fast bike or car while on the Busa, I can’t help myself, it just triggers something. Of course we try and stay out of trouble.

What I don’t do is criticize the Gen III, because of paper specifications, as some do here. The torque curve is enough to keep up with the best on the street for street conditions. Bragging rights means nothing to me. What happens North of 155mph on the street is really not practical.

I'm sort of with you in this space. While I love the Bus, I've sort of moved past the "prove how fast it is" to others. Or even to myself. The bike is faster than I ever need to be. I have a healthy respect for how much better she is than my ability to wring her out.

I never bought her for speed, I bought here because to me she was art.

I learned later that the speed was an unexpected bonus. I've gone faster on a motorcycle than I ever dreamed I would. And it was a thrill. All thanks to her. She made it feel effortless. But I've worked too hard to retire, to be punched out from a "prove how fast she is" childish need to outrun anything.

And I'll readily admit, I've run from cops before. More than once. Once with a passenger on back. With her approval in that moment. However this is foolish. I should NEVER put that person in that position. Just to prove I can outrun someone.

And the day is coming that I will sell her. And it will be hard. But truthfully I just don't need the arm twisting hold on and blast off rides anymore.

Then I'll find a Gen 1 turbo set up for sale cheap. And start the whole "feel that speed" chapter all over again.

So I better sell her before I find one.

It could be how crack addicts feel.

I too was once highly competitive but that has passed.......thankfully....

I guess years of putting myself out on the ragged edge has driven it (mostly) out of me....

However last weekend a little of it came out when I was helping a younger neighbor demolish a deck and he said "that's too heavy for you"

I opened his eyes to the strength of stubbornness and stupidity.....

While out cutting grass, I saw a pick up hauling a flatbed trailer with 3 1984 Burgundy Yamaha Ventures on it......3 of them!

That old and he's probably trying to cobble together one good one. It's sort of sad how manufacturers force obsolescence on model lines. Those are still great touring bikes, but if something needs to be replaced you're in scrounge territory.

From what I saw, all three looked to be in excellent shape.....the guy must have thought I was a real lurker because I stopped the tractor and stared at his trailer as he passed...kind of incredulous at what I was seeing.....

Frickin' people out there driving around with their heads up their arses....

I jumped on my bike to take a few things my wife forgot to her work and was cut off and tailgated at least 5-6 times....

I felt like following a few of them and introducing them to my fist...

One lady wasn't even looking when she was about to pull out and I gave her a blast with the horn and her head spun right in my direction and the nose of her SUV dipped as she jumped on the brakes.....I hope I scared the stupid out of her.......

Normally I don't go anywhere near town but today I had to unfortunately....

Try a new paint job, sounds like the current isn't working.

Perhaps just having a bad day?

Have that issue when I go cycling at times, but never experienced that on the Hayabusa over here. Seems it demands a lot of respect. Maybe it's the dark grey face shield on the Shoei helmet. Maybe it is just the South, some nice folks over here. Sometimes when I tailgate someone going at the or slightly above the posted limit, they purposely move out of the way, so I can pass.

I ride a bike with a yellow fairing...it's hard to get much brighter......

It seems that more and more tech inside cars is taking people's attention more than what is going on outside the car these days.

I never tailgate, all it would take is an unexpected brake check to have a person in an accident....however, because I'm a bike and would get the worse out of an accident, it sure doesn't phase people from tailgating me....

I remember nobody would pull out in front of my last F150 as it was an angry truck with a big black push bar, lifted on 37s, loud pipes and a crazy driver......

Yeah, tailgating a four wheeler while riding is just stupid is as stupid does. I get anxious riding or driving in populated areas since living in the country for the past seven years. My son lives in the northern Bay Area and my daughter on the coast NW of Los Angeles. I hate going there solely due to the traffic. I get POd around here occasionally due to the Park traffic and road delays for pothole fixing. But, it’s sooooo much better than San Jose was. My last commute there was nine miles and it took 30 minutes. Never again.
