Gotta love these people....

Do you know what your son is getting in fuel consumption?

I can remember in a different life, early 70's my job, working, testing on Mercedes's 6.3 Liter V8 cars, putting out 247hp with a torque of 369 lb ft. We thought those were rockets, got a speed thrill every minute I spent with them.

Back in 1973, a 454LS4 Corvette developed 275hp, in metric that would be a 7.4 Liter V8 motor.

Now, along comes a 1600cc 3 cylinder Toyota that would kick it's a$$.

Simply amazing
Not sure what he get for mileage.....I'd imagine it's pretty good on fuel as it's a tiny car.

If we flop towards the EV thread for a second.....ICE engines have come a long, long way in regards to fuel efficiency and emissions compared to even 10 yrs ago. I believe that in time, ICE engines can become even better at both. And if EV become better at being charged quicker, their performance potential is limitless.....my friend's Tesla S in Ludacris mode is almost dangerous.

In the evenings a TV show comes on called "Graveyard Cars" and they focus on Mopar products....the host knows all about Mopars and was saying that in 1970 a 426 Hemi with a 6 pack put out 425hp........he was gifted a new "Hellcrate" engine that is also a 426 hemi (supercharged) but puts out 800hp and is much lighter.....the jump in performance numbers is staggering considering 1970 wasn't that long ago in the big scheme of things.....

The Mercedes M156 naturally produces 518 HP and 465 ft lbs of torque. They’ve come a long ways indeed.

I am a pick up person.....I've had one pretty much my entre driving time....

I started driving in a '66 F-100 farm truck with an inline 6 and 3 on the tree....we hauled just about everything with that truck.....it wasn't fancy or fast, it just got it done.

We skip forward to today and the pick up trucks that are out there are astounding.....my friend has an F-150 Platinum Limited with more gadgets and tech than a spaceship......it's an amazing piece of machinery and if we look at the big picture.....it has been only 59 years to go from that old plain, jane farm truck to this amazingly beautiful work of art my friend has.........

And we could say the same for all tech....even the last 10 yrs has seen a rapid spin up of tech.......I wonder what is next.

I'm a pickup person also.

There is a saying, "A man in America has to own a truck and a chainsaw."

I get the spoils from my wife though, normally buy her something nice.

In 1969 when a person bought an F-100 Camper Special they got both.....I have the chainsaw....a blue Ford......

My wife is a Ford lady, she bought a Focus when I was deployed one time and drove that thing until it was almost rusted out....it ran like new and she didn't want to get rid of it.....after a long time I finally convinced her to get a new Edge ST.....
